Well, I've been thinking along these lines for about 20 years now.
The entire paradigm humans have been living by for the past 5000 years is malignant and parasitic, and cannot continue.
You cannot have infinite positive growth within a finite resource system................period.
The present system will collapse, catastrophically, within the next 100 years, and long term human survival depends on how fast it happens, and how much irreversible damage is done to the biosphere beforehand.
Just remember folks, if ocean temperatures rise by 4-5 degrees Celcius, 70-85% of all marine micro-life dies. Dunno if you remeber from basic biology, but marine microlife (plankton, diatoms, algae etc) are the foundation of the entire food chain....and they provide our atmosphere with 50-60% of our oxygen.
If we screw the pooch and warm things up enough so the plankton and their buddies start dying....the biological holding capacity of this planet plummets to 5-15% of what it is now......fuck nukes and petty wars, this is the big fucking issue, folks.
New York will be under water in 50 years....so will London, Miami, Tokyo and most other large cities below a certain elevation. As things continue to warm, it accelerates (google "siberian bogs" and "lack of polar ice caps").
I have seen all this shit coming for many years, which is why I am in the process of trying to put together an intentional community of like-minded folks who can all put in, buy land, and live a simple, mellow life in the country, and all be each others neighbors.
And that way, way before the shit hits the fan, my family and close friends will have a place to live where we can live for a living, and just be happy, with no job, no money and a good group of solid folks as neighbors. And when it does hit the fan, we just plant trees on the driveways and disappear.
I see that modus of living as the future of humanity, at least for the next 3-9 centuries......we are not spiritually and culturally mature enough as a species to use our gift of technology to actually benefit our long term ( tens of thousands of years) survival, and it will take a catastrophic and total collape of the present system for the survivors to actually learn the big lesson........
Live non-entropically, always, with every action.
Life is the only thing we know of other than gravity that acts against entropy....therefor it is a function of life to behave in that way....basically, always put back more into the system than you take out.
Then you have a system that can grow, in an open ended way......as opposed to the exploitative, malignant and perverse economic paradigm we have now.....where greedy Corpo-Nazi profit-mongers can consume and poison my childrens future for the sake of stoking their diseased egos....and it is considered normal.....business as usual.

that was fucking beautiful man. i feel the same way our technology has outstripped our humanity and our humanity is what connects us with the world and others. i too have dreamed of a time where out technology is intergrated with out enviornment in such a way that it complements it. anyway cool stuff. let me know when you setup your society.
