I think it is importantto have your new pots ready to go with aleadry moist soil-not dripping wet.
I do my transplants when the soil in the cup is starting to dry-makes it easy to get out without breaking up the soil and roots.
I put the platn/soil in a plasic basin and I gently roll the the root ball till the soil starts to break away-I do this being very gentle to remove the spent soil.
I then pick up the plant and rootball and gently place it in the new pot.
I has been filled and slightly tamped about 70%. I place the plant/rootball in the center and gently place the roots in a radial fashion around the stock. I don't like to make a hole and place the rootball in. Seems to me you get more nutes from more fresh soil.
I then place more fresh soil on top to secure the plant.
I water in with water/liquid kelp/molasses/superthrive.
They love it. So far so good. I transplanted seedlings yesterday in the same method and they are doing great as of this afternoon.
Wow! How funny! Poor Curtisd was just wanting someone to say that it was okay to transplant. Haha! I'm all for fresh soil. Roots usually love it as long as they're healthy when they're up-rooted. It's pretty eazy when they're in the cups, because the good root mass will hold tight and seperate from the sides eazily. When i dont have enough root, and my container seems too big, I'll know because keeping track of the watering becomes difficult. As long as were paying attention, we'll be okay!
Peace
ok my plant is doing well, but i have a question. i transplanted into a soilless mix. the soilless mix was damp when i transplanted 2 days ago, it feels dry and sort of like... crispy. should i water it a bit tomorrow or just wait?
Poke your finger down into the new soil, if it's dry further below the surface the water lightly.
When I water a transplanted clone for the first time I water around the edge of the pot to encourage the roots to seek out the moisture in the new soil.
