It is not the best way at all, but it is by far the easiest

:mopper:DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT ADVICE. Please man, checking Trichomes is the most ACCURATE way to know when to harvest.

If you listen to him and let your buds go too far, you might have mostly amber trichomes, and by that point you have shitty couchlock bud that won't get you as high as you should. His method will only work on certain strains, and even that is just luck with timing. You might even go by his method and still have all clear trich heads, you don't want that either.

Trichome color is your guide. Decades of science and 1000's of growers agree. Don't fuck up your high and the potential of your bud just because the bud is swollen and the hairs have receded. You check BEFORE that happens, and throughout the swelling. He even said himself it's not the best indicator to just "look" at the swelling. Check your trichs in the last couple weeks. The ONLY way for an accurate harvest.

you guys think this out too much, which is good. but for a beginner you shoud sto feeding and start flushing as a rule of thumb in the 6th or 7th week of flower. then when 3/4 of the pistols have changed color givem the chop. smoke it and see how it is. then put a notch on your belt cause you got a grow in. checking trichs and understanding what that means will come later. but I like to harvest when the trichs are just turning amber. maybe 10 percent. as much as 30 to 50 percent of them are cloudy. so start flushing when you see your first amber coulered trich emerge

And why will checking trichomes come later? What is stopping him from doing it now? Is his vision suddenly going to become better on the next grow?

Teach them right the first time. I mean, there is no reason he can't get a 5 dollar loupe and learn trich color on his first grow. You have to start somewhere, so why not do it right the first time. That's amateurish bull shit

i'm with you on this, bro

i know that veteran growers have their ways and can tell by looking/smoking but trichs are the bullet proof way to go.

i like the head high better then the couch lock so i think 20% amber is the way to go.

at any rate, thanks for the tips, guys

rock on!!!:dance013:

just saying that a lot of first time growers get confused about tich based harvesting. that's all which is why I also went on to explain how I harvest by the color of the resin glands as well as pistil color. I guess I shouldn't try and simplify things around here cause someone will always have something to say about it. guess I will go back to reading and not posting. fine by me. who wants to see my grows anyway.

and yes that was some passive aggressive bs

so start flushing when you first start to see amber trichs, and chop when 10 to 20 percent are amber or rather asi prefer when at least 2/3rds are cloudy white

yeah but it requires a secret ingredient- experience!!

for those of us who lack it, the trichs are the way to go.

thanks for the link!
Quite a few people use the forum to obtain that secret ingredient online. Not that hard.

There are pictures that could help but you really need to know your plants in order to take a good decision.

I beg to differ, and really don't want to get in an argument over it.
95% of the times both methods give the same result but as trichome color can easily change by quite a few reasons (heat, mites, stress etc) I recommend checking the actual ripeness of the buds.
For the years I'm growing I never got any complaint about over-ripe buds.
Choose what you listen to and what information seems relevant to you.

Anyhow, if and when you use the trichome color identification method note that you should always use a white light while looking at the trichomes as HPS lights are red and it will just change the color you'r seeing in the trichome heads.

Cheers.

We take arguments and try to make them into discussions.
And if it doesn't work we then quit and avoid them.

AssSlinger; Anyhow said:
Gee, ya think? I been at this for 13 years. How many award winning strains have you actually had a direct hand in developing? You see, I came here to give CORRECT advice to people. But instead, I get some asshole (not you- "Thatondude") telling me "I'M AN ASS. All the while I am trying to quell this disinformation about harvesting points.
But you know what? FUCK IT. Assholes will be assholes. It seems this site has degraded down to some fucking high school bullshit. For fuck sake, Grass City has more mature people than this site. Good riddance.

I do appreciate you not calling people "asses" though AssSlinger. You are at least mature enough not to do that.

This site used to be chock-full of veteran growers. Apparently that has changed.
