When to start fertilizing

Just wondering when should the plant start being fertilized. Earth Juice Grow & Bloom comes in tomorrow. Plant sprouted on the 27th of FEB., is it too soon for a light solution?

Thanks :joint:

Yes it's too soon if you meant Feb 27th.

It'll be 10-14 more days. EJ Bloom? Not EJ "Grow"?

EJ Bloom has NO Nitrogen. Thats for flowering.

EJ nutes are very acidic. I hope you have well limed soil.

i'ld still use a weak solution even after the two week mark. 1/2 directions is what i usually go with for mixing strength as mary jane must be a red head cause she burns really easy.

I note with some interest that those in hydro feed as soon as the plant hits the water....

The best way to determine when to feed is not some magical period of time....

or size.... but when the cotyledon leaves yellow.....

when they yellow the plant is ready to eat...

If she is not fed she will eat more of her leaves...

I would wait till you get a few nodes on the veg plants, then slowly start introducing the nutes. start at a 1/4 strength for 2-3 waterings, and then move up to 1/2. Thats what i do without any problems, once I get to 1/2 strength i usually only have about a week and a half left of veg, so I go to full strength for a few waterings then swap to flower.

So should plants grow for about a month, then you can start feeding them?

no a month is usually too long assuming they are growing in an unfertilized medium to start.
i like to go light on the nutes so i start feeding them a 1/4 strength formula at 2-3 weeks. at around a month i start to feed 1/2 strength ever other watering. I pretty much go with 1/2 to 3/4 strength formula for the rest of the grow usually feeding every other watering. i also supliment 2nd half of flowering with 1tbls mollasses every other watering (oppisite the feeding).
i use the fox farm liquid line (grow big, big bloom, tiger bloom)

recently i have started to explore soil mixes that take me through most of veg and the start of flower without needing any ferts. there are tutorials on this, run a search.

good luck, watch your plants and let them tell you what they need.

You show some signs of fear of feeding....

If you use a mix that can take the plants through most of veg without needing ferts(whatever that means) yet... which of course means they are 'fed' from day 1.....

for plants that are in an unfertilized medium no feeding for up to 3 weeks....

I hate to say it but....

duh......

So let me be sure I have this right...

If Im doing hydro I fertilize from the start....

If I do certain types of potting mixes I can 'fert' if its in the soil mix....

but for an inert mix I have to wait 2 or 3 weeks????

The logic of this seems to escape me.....

which is why im lost also....

I think if you get off this site and use google...

you will find that almost all references to feeding seedlings say the same thing....

begin to feed your seedlings when the first set of true leaves emerge...

what are you doing dirt or hydro?
b/c this is the soil section im assuming dirt...

what type of soil are you using to sprout your seedling?
when you transplant are you planning on adding things to the soil? (blood, bone, castings, guanno, lime <-this is a soil mix that can take you through veg with out adding other ferts like the ej youve purchased)

in the case that you arent adding things to your soil and there arent ferts already incorporated in the soil ingnore the above and start feeding at 2-3 weeks above soil.

In soil I wait till the two lowest leaves that are present from birth start to yellow to introduce nitrogen. (2+ weeks usually I think)
