when is sex determined?

how old is a plant when it determines its sex?

does it happen in veg. or under 12 12?

ive heard that there are things you can do to encourage more females- like mostly blue light, higher N levels, cooler temps.

so, im wondering how long do you have to keep these conditions up?

generally happens when you swap to 12/12, but you can still get some female preflowers in veg stage. generally tho it happens within the first 2 weeks of when you flip to 12/12

I find that the plants will eventually show their sex while deep in veg, I had most of my plants show themselves after about 5 weeks of veg time, and that is without switching to 12/12

After switching you want to wait a week or two, before they show, also a great time to get some clones from the newly discovered female plants lower branches, since most would get rid of those branches anyways

Others may disagree, but as far as I'm concerned, sex is determined when the pollen grain is accepted by the unfertilised seed embryo. Just like in animals. I have heard that certian plants have nanscent sex cells, (undetermined), but work with feminisation techniques would lend it self to suggesting that the sex of the seed is pretty much set at the time of conception.
