I'm all the way down at 200 measily feet... A valley within a valley surrounded by mountains but they only go up about 1200 ft.

Look into getting a seedhouse or seedhouse jr. Easy to pack in and out, just requires cups or small pots with some soil to start seeds in a protected enclosure. These are pretty sweet for a guerilla grower getting an early start and the only way I would start seeds outdoors.

If you can, start some indoors so much easier to control things. When they are small they don't need much room. 50 or so on a small shelf in beer cups. Then into the ground just before rootbound. That will give them a great head start and they are so much stronger and better able to handle the great outdoors.
