Whats the easiest way to LST?

I like to tie a loose knot just above one of the nodes and simply clip the other end to the side of the container using small office clips available at Office Max, Staples etc. Very easy to adjust. I use square pots, not sure how well it would work with round ones.

Works great with round ones.

I don't tie any knots. I just loop around a branch and secure both ends with a clip. Fast, easy to add lines, remove lines, adjust lines, etc. In tight places, I'll use a big pair a tweezers to "thread" the string right where I want it without having to manhandle the plants.

The best is insulated wire that you pick up in rolls at any car part store (18 Gauge). No need to tye anything, just wrap around and twist. It is by far some of the best medium to use. Why? Because I said so! ;)

Like the man said, it works well in round pots too. I like the green tape and Bulldog clamps. Easy to adjust if I need to.

I just use like metal twine. I also got sick and tired of tying/untying all the time. Just bend it around loosely around a stem and them either cut holes in the rim of a pot or just secure it underneath the rim (if possible). Strong enough to keep them in line, and cheap, works for me.

Home DePot sells spools of twist tie. Personally, I just bend the top of the plant in a U shape, and tie it off to itself. It'll end up with a 90 degree bend in the top.

I'm doing a SOG, so I'm not letting them grow too tall. I'd be afraid the top would get too heavy to be supported that way.

Worked real good for short plants, though!

All the best,
TG

i bought some gardeners wire some time ago and i got quite good at using it.
ok, really, i was a lazyass and didnt get my ass buying sth. you guys mentioned

i like the fact its very flexible, yet stiff enough to form my plants at minimum effort

sorry picupload wont work

paper clips twist ties and rubber bands for me. the paper clips can hold on to the edge if ya bend um right, twist ties definitly useful, whoever invented them I give props to.

There is also this roll of velcro type material at stores like Lowes and Home Depot for $5-$6. It's green with velcro-style hooks on one side, and this white wispy material on the other, so the strap will stick to itself once wrapped around the plant's branch. Wrap another strap around the pot the plant is in, connect the two, and you have yourself a quick and easy LST.

Here's an example:

My outdoor LST tools last summer (whatever it takes)

Indoors I'm a pipe cleaner and duct tape man. Sometimes I get frisky and drill holes.

Needed something to tie down the branches to, so these zinc screws with full loops are an easy fit. Simply drill fine holes so the screws will hold, and leave the string with a single tie, which is easily and completely untieable for height equalizations.

Use string that doesnt split at the ends so its easy to tie.

Tie the top near a node, and tie it to say 2-3 nodes below it so you dont have that long of a string. A simple once over knot should hold and very easy to undo.

You can tie the top multiple times, i call it the spiraling staircase effect. The more bud sites exposed to direct light = more bud. LST the shit out of it so you have a fairly even canopy. I am stoned right now and just rambling.

Howdy,

im looking for some ideas to make LST easier. For instance, sth. to plug onto your plant and tie it down without knotting all the time.

Hope you get the idea. :bashhead:

Use black Clips that they sell in office Depot and Attach any type of twine or rope you like...

Good Luck

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I have used pipe cleaners in the past. they are just like the twist ties but come in a variety of colors. Goto your local pipe/cigar shop and i'm sure you'll find em. the ones i have i found at wally world in the crafts dept.
