Well, with all this shit going on in the middle east and the strange changes in our earths climate...it has me wondering whats going on here. I've always had a strange obsession with the possibility of the end of the world...a subject that scares me, yet fascinates me at the same time.

It is impossible to deny that our world is heading in a terrible direction and it looks like its too late to turn back. So here are some of my thoughts...

First of all, here is some background about myself- I was raised a Jehovah's Witness and was brought to "chruch" between 2-3 times a week for the first 16 years of my life. This gives me a pretty good understanding, not only of that religion, but of Christian beliefs as a whole. I also have some slight understanding of world religions from college courses.

Although I greatly respect Jehovah's Witness's for their disassociation with sin, I have trouble believing it is the truth because I do not buy any truth in christianity...nor any religion for that matter. Religion gives people something to fight for...something to believe in...thoughts of salvation..etc... But we have no possible way of proving who is right or wrong. Yet it seems we fight endlessly to protect our religions or to try to whipe other beliefs off the map...

Anyway, that is just to say that I blame religion for most of the conflict in the world today. I'm personally agnostic and believe there is something else out there, but am hesitant to believe that any of us truley know what it is and truley worship the correct god. I think some sin is obvious, like gay marriage. Come on, it is obvious that a dick was not meant to go in an asshole (excuse me for being blunt or offending anyone). I belive greed is also an obvious sin, but it seems that the US fights for it quite a bit. We seem to be much more tolerant of sin nowadays....

Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to see what some of you think is going to happen in this possible time of the end.

I personally think we are on the verge of world war 3. Deep down I don't think there is much time left for mankind, at least on this planet. Has anyone looked into the 2012 theories? They are quite interesting.... The mayans seemed to know something that maybe we don't.... There understanding of the solar system in absolutley unbelievable considering that they had none of the technology we have today. For those of you unaware of the mayans and their calanders i'll give you a brief explanation, but i recommend you research it yourself if you are interested (avoid the really far out websites, as much of those are rubbish). Anyway, basically the mayans developed a number of calanders ( 3 to be exact) that are the most accurate to date...and they were created centuries ago. They accuratley pinpointed the winter solstices hundreds of years in advance all through their amazing understanding of the stars. This type of understanding is quite unexplanatory....

It makes you wonder if they had some kind of help...heavenly or whatever. Anyway, the kicker with the mayans is that the calanders they created come to an end at 2012. Not only this, but in 2012 there is supposed to be some kind of galactic alignment (I don't know exactly what, as im not much of an astrologist, but i dont think we have ever seen this alignment take place before). The theory is that the mayans could have somehow known about the ending of the world and developed a calander to show its end. It is quite strange that there ending date coincides with such an extraordinary event...especially considering how messed up the world seems to be today...

I know it is far-fetched to believe the world could just end like that...but is it really that unbelievable considering the state of the world. The middle east crisis could quickly become out of hand and even elevate to nuclear war. Who knows what that could do our atmosphere, considering whats already been done to it. The changing climate could become unbearable for mankind. We are smart creatures, but If a drastic change takes place in only a couple years, we are not quick enough to save ourselves.

Really, the way I see it is the age old saying...the only certainty is change. I feel like people who automatically dismiss theories such as other lifeforms or some kind of greater meaning behind the pyramids or the mayans are naive and may ultimatley lead to our demise. Honestly, who can say with certainty that there is no other lifeform out there. Space is infinite...I feel like I can say quite certainly that there is something out there. There almost has to be..almost.

Anyway sorry for the rant. Sometimes I just need to get my thoughts out even though I don't always expect people to read or acknowledge them. I just feel like something is going on here.... something big... something soon.

So what are your thoughts....

Its strange that you bring this up because I've been thinking the same thing. I mean everything just seems to be starting to go to shit now. I think 2012 could definatley be the end of the world. It almost seems like the beginning of the end right now to me for some reason. I'm not really sure why...but it just feels like it.

Even if the world doesn't end very soon...there is no doubt in my mind that there will be some major changes coming this way...both in the US and the world.

Just call me ms. cleo :joint:.

I don't really know what's gonna happen with the world..all I can do is prepare for the worst and be ready to get out of dodge when the shit hits the fan.

I'm thinking of building a cabin out in the woods somewhere and getting away from everything..once I get some money of course. Hopefully I'll have a girlfriend/wife who will move away from town with me so I won't be all alone. Just grow my weed, hang out with my gal pal and live a simple life.

I would hate to think our time on Earth is almost up since I'm still young and haven't lived a full life..but come whatever may.

I hear you man, i'm still young and I feel like I probably wont die of old age. I've had fun while i've been here, so I can't complain too much. I'm glued to the news pretty much 24/7 waiting for world war 3 to break out. This is escalating so quickly... I can't see them resolving things...especially with whats going on with Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.... things are getting scary.

first off, I don't see how a homosexual relationship is a sin, if your only problem is with men and anal sex, what about two women making love in the comfort of their own home? Or even getting married? What's the big deal? You don't have to watch.

As for the world ending, the mayan calander is just faith, just like all that religious hogwash. I agree that the escelating situation in the middle east and other parts of the world are going to lead to hard times for all, but not the end of the world.

Sorry if i'm being offensive, I really don't mean to be, but I just feel that if there is a greater being out there or some sort (which I believe there is), I dont buy that he/she/it would agree with something as unnatural as homosexuality. I don't buy the, "i was born that way" shit. I believe maybe you were raised wrong and our world is also really messed up which could make people think its ok.

No one is perfect, but I believe people can make an effort to do whats right. I'm also a bit of a hypocrite... being a pot smoker and all.

not sure if there any phillip K dick fans out here but the book "Flow my tears, the policeman said" has a great speech about life and death.

I dont have the book with me but essentially it talks about a girl who had a bad trip, and ended up fading out of existence for several moments, only to be at complete peace. From this, she no longer fears death, because death is the most peaceful self-awareness possible, that which you should avoid is the concious awareness of death, such as the death of a loved one. Your concious mind fades away when your body leaves this world. You don't remember your name, your clothes, your friends, what kind of car or what dog you had as a kid, your just your own mind, and not any of your thoughts or memories.

That being said, my plan is to have a whole manner of dissasociative medicine for the "big moment" the sky comes crashing down on us. I would rather slip from temporary bliss into eternal bliss without ever realizing what horrible fate my physical body endured.

Yeah, i was totally with you until the homosexuality thing. I'm agnostic (ajnd straight) myself and believe religion has a lot to do with whats wrong with the world today. I don't know how people can't accept homosexuality as natural... our sexual preference for the most part is controlled by chemicals (as is our sex)... it may not be "normal" for a kid to be born with 3 legs but its completely natural because from time to time it happens in nature. I think the same thing applies to homosexuality. And for those who 'choose' to be homosexual... if they can mentally connect with another human being of the same sex and find happiness... well then awesome for them. We are over populated as it is... all we need is more heterosexual couples reproducing. You talk about greed being a sin. Don't you think that people reproducing in this day and age is some what greedy in its own right?
I think that tolerance and understanding is the only thing that could even begin to fix this fucked up world... that is if we arn't already to far gone. As for their being a "GOD" that looks down on people and judges them. I personaly believe that if there is a god that they are so far beyond us that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING we could do that would offend that god or that could be out side of their understanding. We are mere ants.

I don't know I'd go so far as to say that we are merely ants to whatever higher being there is... I almost believe that the higher being isnt simply a one, but a many. Perhaps as many as ourselves...watching us, perhaps even amongst us. I guess the homosexual comment was unnecessary and bares more of my personal opinions than was relevant to my original point.

I will agree that not everyones individual actions are judged, but maybe its more along the lines of our collective society.

To be honest, the more I talk about this and think it through, the more I realize I have no idea. There is a vast infinity of possibilities and it almost seems pointless to dwell on it.... sigh...I just hope for some kind of answer before its my time to go.

Another quote I think may bring some insight to the topic.

From the words of the late, great, Bill hicks:

"Religion has a built-in defense system: anything that questions a belief, no matter how logical the argument is, is the work of Satan by the very fact that it makes you question a belief. It's a very interesting defense mechanism and the only way to get by it -- and believe me, I was raised Southern Baptist -- is to take massive amounts of mushrooms, sit in a field, and just go, "Show me.""

Definetly one of the more interesting experiences of my life, which I did long before I was introduced to Bill Hick's philosphy. :)

"Its not a war on drugs. Its a war on personal freedom. Please keep that in mind at all times."
I love bill hicks!
Anyways... I guess I'm just sick of how gays are being treated by our society. We have a tendancy to treat anyone that doesn't automatically conform to societies rules as second class citizens not worthy to share the same space as us. You say that this isn't relavent to the conversation but i personally think that it fits right in. Some religions, christianity for one, teach intolerance and bigotry which are just forms of hate. This is where we are killing ourselves in my opinion... along with all the greed ofcourse.
To quote another one of my favorites...
"The christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad." ~Friedrich Nietzsche

I guess, my reasoning for not believing in gay marriage has nothing to do with religion. Its more based on science and our anatomy. The way we are built, it seems that males were not meant to mate. Now the consequences for such actions, of course we cannot judge. Perhaps no one judges us and we are to live completley free... or maybe there is something that judges us and determines our future... again, maybe it is individual or maybe it is collective... no one knows....

But I do not believe gay marriage is wrong because it may be referenced to in the bible (men should not lay with men). It is strictly scientific (Bodily make-up, reproduction, etc).

I do agree that mushrooms can be quite enlightening. On my last tripped I had a pretty interesting thought... Here it is...

What if there were originally some sort of higher being that inhabited the earth. Peaceful people that may have had a peaceful and happy world planned out for all of us... but for some reason things went wrong and this race was being threatened... there was nothing they could do to save themselves, but in an effort to save the human race they hid the secrets to the universe in wild mushrooms knowing that one day humans would stumble upon them... in hopes that we would find the truth...

I've done some stuff on mushrooms to support this, like burning money, etc. It is truley a powerful feeling to have no desire for material goods and i've only really felt that on mushrooms... that being said, my list of tried drugs is quite limited, consisting of only mushrooms weed and alcohol.

Anyway, my threads are not meant to offend anyone. If you are homosexual, its not like I hate you, I just don't feel it is the way things are supposed to be.

Either way, I am just trying to stir up some food for thought in these crazy days... and I hope the best for all of us. Time will tell...hell, we could all be fine for the next couple centuries... I wouldn't bet on it, but you never know.

Yeah, i agree with you that homosexuality goes against our reproductive traits. I just don't think that people who make that choice or are born with those feelings should be oppressed. Ok enough with that....
Like shrooms? Try some acid. Theres nothing to fear but fear its self.

Strange, I don't feel as if the world is ending?

More importantly, who cares? Hide in your bomb-shelter to survive the end of the world. lol

i think the world will dry up, all the water is slowly disappearing year after year, go look at your local river or stream you used to see as a kid, most of the streams are already gone, the ones that are there are way more shallow then they used to be, rainfall is almost nonexistent in the summer and droughts are almost normal now, the average heat index is getting more and more each year.

places that are used to getting snow way early are getting snow later and much less snow in the winter, snowmobiles used to be a big thing now people are lucky to ride them for a few weeks during the whole winter, ice fishing is becoming less of a season with all the warm winters, for the first time ever we couldn't get out on our lake with vehicles this winter, the world is getting warmer and more dry with each passing season. it will take a long time for this to happen but if something doesn't change it's well on it's way, we had the ice age now it's time for the drought age.
