whats a good soil mix? fox farms

I've got a few clones coming, I was wondering what kind of soil I should mix in with coco for veg? What about nutrients and additives? A good feeding schedule would be nice. I was thinking about running advanced nutrients or something thats just as good. Thanks.

There is a subforum full of nutrient schedules and soil mixtures to try. Then tweak what you find to suit your needs. Best piece of advice I can give you is that many times, manufacturer suggested feed schedules can be strong for plants, so start out at half strength and work your way up from there.
For my next run I am going to try something completely different and use this line by Dr. Earth (going to test out the POTting soil, organic 5, Organic 8, Liquid Solution, and Seaweed Concentrate in one run). If you are feeling adventurous, mayb e take a look at these products http://drearth.net/blog/products/recipe-for-success-kits/potting-kit/

I also recommend reading the organic forum sticky.

I've been using the Dr. Earth potting soil mixed with an excellent potting soil I got from the nursery. Added 30% NAPA floor dry [Diatomaceous earth] instead of perlite.

I water to runoff every time. Every other time, I also give them molasses [little bit] and a b-vitamin/kelp additive. Added beneficials to the soil before transplant. I don't overwater.

Don't do it my way just because I do. Research and choose your own path.

As a new grower I had struggled mightily mixing coco with other products, mixing different chemicals and organic ferts for different stages, mixing advice from soil growers, coco growers, organic and chemical growers... My plants grew a centimeter a day, were either over watered or dried out and having deficiencies.

In the end these 2 threads completely changed my way of thinking and now I spend 15 mins a day taking care of my thriving plants and it could not be simpler. They should be mandatory reading for newbs. The less I interfere with the process the better, and these two threads made it happen for me:

Coco hempy buckets. Impossible to over water unless I suppose you stuck a running garden hose in the plant and walked away for a few days. This method makes your plants EXPLODE. If you grow mothers in coco hempys you better be ready to take a lot of cuttings. They will get out of control very fast.

The KISS Method. I mix one bucket of nutes and feed my entire crop from that bucket - veg, clones, and flower; except for the flush at the end.
One scoop of Maxibloom and a dash of epsom salt to supplement the magnesium and that's it.

These methods are what worked best for me and I wish I had not wasted 4 months stumbling around in the dark. However, different methods suit different people and now the search begins for you. Good luck!

Advanced Nutrients is made in China. Do yourself a favor and grow organically. You won't need a pH meter and it's very forgiving. LC's mix in the Organic Soil Forum is the standard from which you can deviate from as you learn. Forget about feeding schedules. You feed your plants when they are hungry, not when some chart tells you to.

I've been doing some more reading and was thinking wether or not I should go hempy with some kind of mix wether it be perlite, coco, vermiculite, or anything else that could be used in a hempy vs a coco with dripper? Any opinions are welcome.
