who did the work on the S1's?...did they stress the plant on purpose to get the S1's?....did the plant thrw out some late nanners to produse the S1's?... or did they come from the STS method?....

the answer to those two Questions can go along way in determaning weather there worth the rick or not, IMHO......

That's the thing. Selfing can give you the craziest genetic possibilities of the parent plant's parents, phenos you could never dream of, but it's unpredictable. If you have the time and the space it's deffinately worth some investigating. I don't have space....

just an opinion. I don't like the idea of S1s. Just for so many reasons.
If using it to breed, you are breeding in a line that has hermied. Even if it was forced. The genetics you are breeding in has not been formed in the same way as normal, creating an uneven match when breeding, as I suspect S1s genes would be subserviant to whatever it would be matched to. If you arent breeding, get a cutting, or better yet, it's sister, who may be even nicer. If that's not possible, get her daughter, but get a daughter with a father rather than from a single parent family.
Like I said, just my opinion though.

well the Deepchunk are gypy's beans pre 2004 ....hazyfontazy got them from him and wanted 2 make f2's but 1 female hermied on him ...and had a open pollination....

now the bubba k S1's from OGK if you dont want those i'll most difinitaly take those off your hands...

Depends on what you call stable. They wont pass on gentic traits as reliably as other plants, meaning that siblings born from them may show greater diversity than you would expect or may just closely resemble the fathers. The theory behind them is that you only get genetic info from the S1ed plant making each offspring an exact copy. But that just ignores that fact that DNA gets reshuffled anyway when reproducing. So rather than getting 2 DNA strands recombining, you are getting one being messed about with in many ways in each seed. Then these seeds are grown with only one duplicated set of genes. Recessive traits, problems, and great plants may all be present, so a keeper could be generated this way, but you would have to search for it.

This came out of Orgnkid's Very Berry Surprise (Blackberry S1s). Deffinately a nice plant, but the other girl I got out of the 2 seeds was green and had no resin production at all, that's what I mean about the unpredictability; I had 2 phenos which couldn't have been any more different from each other.

yup i had some decent plants from the VBS i ran as well, no hermies and if i remember correctly no males either....

i got two purple and one green, the green was more potent but the purple yielded better and tasted better and of cource it was purple.....

ran the oger S1's and the bubba S1's from OGK loved them both got a couple males but NO hermies.....so you see i have had nothing but good luck with the S1's ive grown..

now "FEM" seeds on the other hand is all together another story!!!!.. i'll take S1's over "FEM" seeds any day of the week...

lol, sorry I was wasted when I tried to write that. If you crossed a new P1 to an S1 seed would that even out the genetic mess? Well, I don't know. But the point is how would you pick an S1 to represent the strain? With so much variability, you are selecting on proximity to the original P1, which if then outcrossing, you would be much better using the orinal P1 parent with the new P1 parent. The only time I could see this being desirable would be when wanting to breed 2 clone only strains. And then I wouldn't use Selfing as a technique. As for a stabalisation technique though, which lets face it, is what selfing is all about, I don't believe it to be a good choice.

same here...best 40 bucks a pack I ever spent....no males out of either...and core....you better watch every plant you ever put in your garden...anyone can hermi...dont blame s1's....
