What you heard about bitcoins?

I read an AMA on redditt from an IT/Grower guy.
He said he sold all his pot on MOM (mail order marijuana) networks and got the money in bitcoins and forex. VERY interesting indeed the guy does alls his business online.

This ominous "road" also has tutorials on bitcoins, how to convert and anonymize them.

risky, but based on the prices I've seen on certain websites for illicit goods, can you blame him? Don't know which sites this grower uses, but based on the prices I've seen

either sell elbows locally for 2500-3000ish (just a theoretical number)
or sell ounces online for like 600 at a time

scam. If you are in, get out, if you are out, stay out. No business who knows what they are doing will have anything to do with it. Show me a bank that allows accounts to hold bitcoins.

Got to disagree with you there GMT...Look at what the banks are doing across the world.

The idea of Bitcoins is to cut out the middle men, ie, the banks.

the banks are middlemen yes, but what they are dealing with is a representation of predicted GDP's. bitcoins are just representations of the predictions of the future value of bitcoins.

Trading depends on what other Bitcoin holders will sell/buy for.

If I have 10 Bitcoins and I want £80 for them, I advertise that and wait for someone to take my offer.

In July 2011, The operator of Bitomat, the third largest Bitcoin exchange, announced that he lost access to his wallet.dat file with about 17,000 BitCoins (roughly equivalent to 220,000 USD at that time). He announced that he would sell the service for the missing amount, aiming to use funds from the sale to refund his customers.[73]
In August 2011, MyBitcoin, one of popular Bitcoin transaction processors, declared that it was hacked, which resulted in it being shut down, with paying 49% on customer deposits, leaving more than 78,000 BitCoins (roughly equivalent to 800,000 USD at that time) unaccounted for.[74][75]
In early August 2012, a lawsuit was filed in San Francisco court against Bitcoinica, claiming about 460,000 USD from the company. Bitcoinica was hacked twice in 2012, which led to allegations of neglecting the safety of customers' money and cheating them out of withdrawal requests.[76][77]
In late August 2012, Bitcoin Savings and Trust was shut down by the owner, allegedly leaving around 5.6 million in debts; this led to allegations of the operation being a Ponzi scheme.[78][79][80][81] In September 2012, it has been reported that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has started an investigation on the case.[82]
In September 2012, Bitfloor Bitcoin exchange also reported being hacked, with 24,000 BitCoins (roughly equivalent to 250,000 USD) stolen. As a result, Bitfloor has suspended operations.[83][84] The same month, Bitfloor has resumed operations, with its founder saying that he has reported the theft to FBI, and that he is planning to repay the victims, though time frame for such repayment is unclear.[85]

Yea that..

Not secure.. not 100% safe from fraud.

Good for those looking to purchase with anonymity..not so good for all of those who tried to store their wealth in it as a means of growth/investment outside of corrupt fiat currencies. Unfortunately.. they lost their ass.
