What would you smoke in Jamaica?

Hello all,

As the title suggests what would you smoke in Jamaica?

I am going on a cruise (love them) and I will be in Jamaica for a day.

So, anyway, after doing some searches on the net and watching numerous videos about Jamaican bud.

It seems that Dutch indica genetics have permeated the once sativa dominate strains. IMO...

I have been growing and smoking mostly indica dominate strains for so long its just not true.

I am looking forward to a full sativa to smoke while I am there.

Its been soo long since I have seen a really good sativa I may not even recognize it if I saw it.

I will be searching for Lambsbread (Lambsbreath) so I am hoping I will find it.

Any input as to what to look out for is appreciated.


Also, if Jamaican bud is so good how can these folks smoke like these huge joints (sliffs) and stay awake?

Don't buy it from the dudes offering it at the beaches, airports, or hotel lobbies..... that shit is tourist swagg all day homie. You need to ask around a bit to find some of the good island erbs and please don't be down there away from the designated tourist spots solo looking for that shit, mofos will kidnap your ass or worse please believe it!!

When I went on a cruise in 2000, the Captain announced "Don't turn your week's trip into a 25 year one" LOL so be wise if you're thinking about bringing any of it back with you!

Don't bring anything back with you!!!!! It can be super sketchy buying over there. Luckily for me, as a woman I was able to utilize nature's pocketbook, and bring my own. We went down a river on tubes, met a Rasta man when we stopped to see where Bob Marley used to do concerts, and he took out a machete and broke up some bud for us to try. We had already blazed him up with some Blueberry, so he gave us bud for free, and we gave him some of ours. Cool Rasta dude!!!!! Good luck on your vaca and have a blast.

I get mixed message here. Don't buy in the tourist areas... but don't leave the tourist areas.

Jamaica has become a shithole expect for the compounds for tourist. It really sucks. Not just the Caribbean islands either. You can have same problems trying to score from natives on the NW side of the Hawaiian Island Oahu. In Oahu you have a massive tent city that is as ghetto as it gets. In Jamaica it seems that crime is a problems everywhere outside the massive tourist compounds

i was only there in November like yourself i was on a cruise.

the weed i got at bobs house looked like low grade weed, but after i smoked two spliffs i nearly passed out. myself and the missus got baked, she felt like she was on shrooms. my mate had the same experience a few weeks before that.

the seeds i got there are about 4 weeks into flower, two sativa dom and one indica see how it goes.

In one day though really you should just ask to score a couple joints, then you don't have to worry about bringing any back

Um, who told you Jamican bud is "so good"? Jamaica is very well known for marijuana and at one time a long time ago when the grow op scene didn't exist and it was the importing and smuggling days everyone loved the famous Jamaican sativa's but much has changed brother...

Jamaica is extremely far behind when it comes cannabis cultivation, with most growers still using the same methods they have used for hundreds of years...Most just use some chicken shit or similar to top dress and then just hand water. 90% of growers I talked to when I was their had no idea what male and female plants were and they literally were amazed and wrote my words down word for word when I told them how they could grow weed free of any seeds by removing the male plants. One actually said "So DAT's da secret,eh mon?!?

the hash they make is hand rubbed chara's, only people I saw fucking with any dry sift and bubble were some fellow Canadians that brought their own bubble bags down.

Of course their are some great growers out there and you will find some awesome smoke 100% but you sound like your expecting it to be some super potent weed and you probably will smoke some sativa's that are nice and trippy but most of the weed I smoked there was very mellow weed...all of it will be at least lightly seeded it is very rare to get 100% seedless as even the growers that are in the know and remove the males are usually surrounded by neighboring fields of ganja where males still may be present.

I actually did find some amazing hash though and even some decent oil they made outta 75% rum hehe. I loved the weed their too! I try to get out there every year. Nothing like a week in Jamaica to unwind!

Tourist weed is always ditch weed and over priced because they know you'll pay it as you don't have time to get to a farm

Expect to pay $40 for about 1/4 oz, although it'll probably still be on the stalk so you'll be lucky to have more than the top 8 - 10", of a 2ft long herbstalk, which they will have paid about $2-3

Don't even think about taking any back on board as they will find it and attempted smuggling is fucking serious

Wow man why don't ya be a little more negative...Jamaica is an amazing place and it is impossible NOT to have a good time there especially as a cannabis smoker.

If you actually paid 40 bucks for a 1/4 oz is Jamaica then I'm not surprised you had a shitty time. Just because they try to sell it to you at that price does not mean that is what you have to pay. In the first 5 minutes of getting to my hotel I paid 20 bucks for at least 12 grams of weed and that was the worst deal I got the whole time I was there. Their gonna eat you alive if you agree to pay 40 bucks a 1/4 lol...

Jamiaca is very inexpensive for nice 5 star resorts. The weed, rum, woman and even cocaine and other substances are plentiful. What more could a person looking for a good time want?

Jamaica is awesome, super friendly people everywhere despite what you may read. Quick and fast, Get in a cab and ask tell them to take you to the many spots that sell herb from "kiosks" and tell the cabbie you are really picky and won't buy anything unless it's fresh and good and cheap. In one day you won't find real old school lambs bread. Tell the cabbie you will tip him if he takes you to a place you can look at several varieties. The herb should be in a paper bag and not squished or compressed it should look like fresh homegrown. It won't be pure knockout indica. Whatever you get it will probably be seedy if you just have limited time to look. The more time you spend the better chance you have of finding something seedless. Yes it is true no growers are using DWC or ebb and flow hydro trays thank god, they use manure and rain to grow. Avoid the big city if you are the scaredy cat type, most boats will not dock near a big urban area. The last time I went it took less than ten minutes from getting in the cab to get to a decent "kiosk" with fresh colas of green bud. No point in wasting time searching for the best if you are there for a day of fun. Have fun! The people are universally friendly if you have a genuine smile and are experienced ganja lover. Typical tourists will get a typical runaround so be kind and generous, their livelyhood depends on true ganja lovers. Definetley avoid hotel staff to provide, the cabbies know where the decent kiosks are. Dress down, carry little cash, be cool with people and they will respect. If you get a chance, rent a motorcycle for the real rural fun.

Yeah I should've been more specific, ask one of the natives where the good good is, that's what I did, I gave one 10 bucks and he came back with a phat sac of brownish seedy erb.... had to be over a 1/4 zip, I was kinda p'ed by the looks but I needed some smoke badly... figured since I'd been drinking most of the day I'd get high off of it anyway, it was mid grade-ish but it kett me buzzed up pretty good.

All kidding aside, just be smart. Where in Jamaica are you going? I agree with the others, don't buy the crap from the beach or touristy areas. Finding a cabbie is your best bet if your only there for a day.

Are you familiar with Urban Remo on youtube? He has a bunch of videos online from Jamaica and they might give you a sense of the scene there.

I will not even touch the shit in North America after sampling what Jamaica had to offer. Truly lovely stuff where it just makes ya feel like a million bucks, relaxed and talkative. Not like the shit here that makes you all bugged out, paranoid and just gross in general.

Jamaica is THE place to party man...Last time I went it was $1300 per Canadian per person per week all inclusive 5 star hotel in Ocho Rios with air fare and everything included of course...The amount of food and booze you eat and drink, that $1300 pays for itself in no time.

I paid $20 for about a half ounce log of some awesome hand rub hash. Shit was soo fucking tasty obviously not nearly as potent as some good bubble or dry sift but wow it smoked so nice...You can find good deals if you leave the resort. If you don't wanna be to risky the taxi drivers usually are much better to grab off then the people working at the resorts. Not the hotel taxi drivers obviously but the private type ones that sit right outside the resort gates.

Edit: Sorry did not even see post above where he reccomended cabbie but I second it 100%. Of course do not get it off anyone at the airport including whoever transports you from the airport they will usually try and sell you something but do not purchase it. They know you are just getting there, do not know anyone and are un sure of how hard scoring may be so they take advantage of that. 99% of the employees that worked at my hotel resort sold cannabis and cocaine. Everyone from towel boys to security guards had the goods...

Oh and if you bring anything back on the ship make sure its on you, not your carry on. Cruise ships actually x ray your carry on's nowadays. Crazy, I know. I would always bring beer back on the ship in my bag because its so pricey on board. They would see it in the x ray and I would be like "ohh noo its just soda. " It's mostly a safety precaution, but better safe than sorry.
