i read in skunk mag(mightve been Heads) I believeit was the Revs
article that males almost always pass on the weight and potency. The female the rest... dont go breakn my balls now lol! I dont believe everything I read, but i would think if it was that simple breeding would be much easier. I mean it wouldnt be hard to notice these traits when crossing strains w/big differences(traits).

The Rev also stated sativa pollen was much lighter(in weight) compared to indica(very heavy). But since Ive read it Ive always kept that in mind(using males w/heavier yield). So this subject is really important to me cause Ive been doing some crosses here and there.I havent noticed anything definitive to share/add either way. anybody give thumbs up or down on the Revs opinion?

do you think 'feminized' plants have no/low weight, or no/low THC?

rev doesnt know how weight and potency are inherited.

neither do I exactlyso feel free to kickdown some knowlege! And not many people breed w/feminized genetics cause of the high herm rate! I dont even use fems for growing, prefer standard....but to each his own right?

just more examples of empty cannabis logic. ie:Fem matings cause high herm rates; (only)males pass on potency and yield. the ridiculous shit from these published dipshits(rev,HT) is limitless.
but,yes to each his own. good luck with yours. hahhhh

Personally I believe there's definitely some correlation between sex and heritability. After growing numerous hybrids I definitely feel that a larger portion of female traits are inherited from the maternal line than the paternal.

Do you think that maybe the easiest way to explain this is that you don't get to observe the traits of the male in a female expression? Surely you keep many more females than males of the progeny and watch them more closely.

I don't have much breeding experience but I've made a few crosses in the past few years, nothing serious but It really depends on the mother and father plant, I've grown this wild nepalese plant with a very low sweet orange/carrot smell crossed with a lemon/coffee/sweet smelling chitral male and the resulting cross smelled like pinesol, the plants had smells that were never present in the mother plant, earthy and piney smells that came from the male. some genes are recessive and others dominant it all depends on the plants used.

that's just my 2 cents

For some reason people think they can look at the phenotypes of the mother and father, and then the phenotype of the offspring and makes rules and determinations about what was inherited from whom... all te while ignoring the fact that phenotypes are the result of genotypes.

Very few traits are maternally or paternally linked in cannabis... one of the only I've been able to confirm is variegation... which is a chloroplast DNA trait, inherited from the mother.

All nuclear (chromosomal) traits are contributed to equally from the maternal and paternal side. Anyone who tells you otherwise is ignoring the facts of meiosis and sexually recombination.

The real point in the matter, is that almost every important trait in cannabis from flavours to types of high, to yield, to resistances are all polygenic traits controlled by numerous genes sprinkled throughout the genome. The probability of these traits being passed on entirely by the mother or father is almost zero.... it just doesn't happen, and there has been ABSOLUTELY ZERO evidence published anywhere to support the claim that any traits are inherited from the maternal or paternal side..... anything else is just pure speculation or misinterpreted data.

I agree with that, within the gene pool of that wild nepalese were some acrid/earthy cultivated lines, which could explain the earthy aromas but the skunky astringent aroma from the male carried to the female, which is an aroma I haven't experienced in this seedline amongst a number of individuals.

No, the traits are for the most part inherited individually. We think we can see them because anything like the mom we see we credit to her and any bud trait we haven't seen before we credit to the father. But it's a mix of the parents' genotypes that are inherited, not their phenotypes.

in my experience i dont belive you need a gaol to achive just cross what you want and see what you get grow them out pick the best its that simple.

If your goal is to make seeds you'll see exactly how easy that is to achieve. Certainly wouldn't call it breeding tho.

if it isnt breeding what is it lol? u prude. is the act of putting pollen from your best male to your best female called somthing different if you try and be vain enough to think you can plan the outcome

How do you know it's your best male? I'm not an advocate of 1:1 matings. The lady you think smokes the best isn't necessarily the best mother.
