What total opposite strains would you cross?

I don't know how opposite they are but the two loudest, best smelling strains I have are the clone only Sour Dub and a excellent cut I have of Irene. I smell the jars everyday for the hell of it. I wonder what smells these two would make if crossed:biggrin:

I dI'd something like this with thai x pre 98 bubba kush, I was not happy with the results. It seemed to bring out the worst traits in both strains.

It bumped up the yield of the bubba but kept the stumpy structure, it was covered in ugly red hairs and lost bubbas resin.

The few plants I ran were total trash.

Dealing with landraces is full of surprises, often times we are used to drug strain x drug strain, flavor x flavor etc. and usually come out with something that is at least as good as one of the parents.

However in my limited experience you really have to grow the phenos out, I crossed a north indian charas sativa to a Kc33/afghan cross that was pure spice. The two seeds i grew out resulted in moderate/long flowering plants but that's where the similarities ended. One had big fluffy green/purple buds with purple leaves and smelled musty, while the other smelled strongly of fresh cut carrots with green spear shaped buds lol.

Neither would I have kept but having said that I know there are winners in the gene pool it's just a more tedious task to search through.

I would vote open pollination of Thai's x Afghans, after all the building blocks for real blueberry and many other strains.

I think when you cross 2 totally different types together that the real gems are in the F2 generation.

Sadly most people give up in the F1 generation.

:yeahthats

F2 is where all the fun is at... When working with true F2s.

When working w poly x poly x poly x poly... Everything seems like an F2.

I’ve been growing a cut for I think 5 years, Thai x Deep Chunk (from Cannacopia seed). Not sure if it’s an F1 or the breeding involved but it’s a good match. Also not sure of the origins of the Thai, they say it was collected, but the Deep Chunk male(s) is supposedly from Chimera (via Tom Hill?).

I've been blending a particularly awesome bubba kush with antenna's purplelazerlite lately and the doobs are fricken phenomenal..... so I'm gonna blast my bubba cut with antenna's purplelazerlite pollen just for shits and giggles.
powerful kush x powerful pure hazey sativa, what's not to like?

I've got a Lao (f) x Crocketts Tangie (m) which is looking very good. I think the highs might complement each other. It looks like a pure sativa. The Lao came from Gypsy's Laung Prabang Lao.

No blueberries…pine, hash, and citrus. I grew 2 similar phenos for a few years but culled one as it had a bit of a stony effect. The one I still have stacks well, high calyx to leaf, matures fairly early, and is clear and up. Thanks for asking, it gave me a reason to crack a jar and have another sample of this years crop ;-)

Probably similar cross already done countless times but for my next grow Iwill cross a chem with a CBG Durban male selected for aroma. I have a feeling like the lemony fuel would match perfectly with durban's anise\fennel smell and maybe speed up the harvest of durban.
I also think about polinate a delicatessen primera dama with the same father, Northern Mexico meeting South Africa seems like a call for a test outdoor in my mediterranean climate

Landrace Thai X landrace Afghani.......that one was done many many times in the 1970's in NorCal and BC and resulted in some good strains.

Might be worth a go,if you find two special plants. Otherwise you might be "re-inventing the wheel".

Also, my bet is that, if you grew out many of the seeds, you would find significant phenotypic variation.. But further crosses (or back crosses) could be done to stabilize them.
