what should I worry about when growing in a greenhouse

Greenhouses are legal - they shouldn't really raise suspicion in and of themselves. On the other hand . .a greenhouse in the ghetto . .or in the back yard of a frat house . . . maybe not.

But assuming you live in an area where a greenhouse doesn't really stand out -
You have to make sure that nobody sees your plants or they will take them or tell somebody about them or something else bad. If you have a big property and nobody can get on it or see into it (ie . .you are out in southern humboldt/northern mendocino or somewhere like that) then you should be good. Just make sure that nobody can see/smell the plants. If anybody does or even 1 person finds out then the risk is so much greater . .so you really have to make sure nobody will stumble into your greenhouse or get close enough to smell anything . . ie . .are you sure no neighborhood kids would ever get in there? Kids break into garages and outbuildings.

Selling it is the real dangerous part since you can't do it without at least 1 person finding out what you're up to. Then all kinds of things can happen.

River Rat you are brililant, they actually sell bees over the internet, farmers buy them to help fertilize (in the birds and the bees sense, not the cow manure sense) thier crops. A big sign right next to it warning not to get close because of bees just might scare off any literate person.

I want to purchase a 100' polytunnel greenhouse and grow a shitload of weed in it. I figure that if i give each plant 16 sqare feet of room, then i will be able to grow 187 full sized plants. What do I need to worry about in terms of law enforcement?

where can you get a 100' greenhouse for $4k?

Never ventured into the greenhouse forum so sorry if thats a newb question. I did a quick google and damn sure couldnt find anything that cheap

I also posted your lengthy post about curtilage and privacy in the legal section. I find it to be very eye opening and figured others would appreciate it. I gave you credit for it.

I have been looking for Greenhouses for cheap also. I think I will build one since the wood is free if I mill it. Maybe I could mill two and sell one!! I am sooo smart.

I dont think it will be 100' though. That might stand out unless you are agricutlure. And then you have to deal with everyone asking: "What's in the greenhouse?" And 100' of veggies is alot to eat.

I want to do one but cant keep from thinking that if some LE from the ground or air saw it that he would be suspicous. I know it's illegal for them to do anything with out probable cause but they will in order to get something legal on your ass to bust you with. I know, I have been a victim of corrupt LE.

no ones brought this up but 187 monster plants will be a full time job requiring a skilled herb gardener.

My greenhouse uses translucent white plastic for the first 8' or so from the ground, with clear only on the top. You can't see into it from the ground and really couldn't make out anything from the air as the clear isn't all that clear. From the ground it really looks more like a storage shed than a greenhouse because of the white sides.

Here's some sativas from last year...

I would advise to set up a greenhouse only on a large property with plenty of acreage where nosy neighbors won't be smelling the crop or even see the greenhouse.

Not to mention you would go jail for a reaaalllly long time if you got busted. Not really worth it if you ask me.

start out with a small greenhouse and grow lots of veggies around and in front of it
after u realize how much work/risk/money/and knowledge u need then after a year u can get up to a larger size

try cropking.com also look up solex [sp ] white translucent greenhouse glazing looks like plastic cardboard but comes in rolls and easy to do hoop style houses with

just got a little greenhouse from harbor freight tools 4'x6' footprint

under 500$
filled with tomatoes and melons and veggies right now will try other things later in season after i get shade cloth to block view

bees are great for discouraging curious post organic signs and have several stinky compost piles / compost tea barrels around yard

also hops are supposed to smell strongly and they grow real tall

another tall cover are jersulam artichokes [sp]

i'm in a city so stealth is real big.....

Of course, you could always live inside your greenhouse and treat it like an ordinary home, have a cordoned off section near the doorway area that allows people a limited view into your living area near the front entrance. Have a TV or hi-fi blaring away from inside and put up a decent TV arial on its roof and place a doormat at the doorway.

And if you have a regular house nearby, see if you can't disguise it as a storage shed by covering it over with sheets of rusty corregated iron.

Just make sure you come out to meet any strange or unwanted visitors and tell them your unique solar home is your private dwelling that was prescribed for you by your doctor due to a rare fungus that grows on your skin which is life threatening, highly contagious and air-born. Never invite them in and if you have an affinity with dogs, have one stationed outside to let you know when people are approaching.

You could place a secure fence well back from the dwelling so that no one gets close enough to get a whif of what's exuding out of the place and keep an old drum of kerosine around so you can slop a bit around when you know someone's arriving, in order to confuse the odor.

Get to bed early in order to keep your lights off at night so that you aren't projecting the silhouettes of all your girly friends against the walls nor confusing them regarding the ratio of their daylight to dark hours.

Let us know how you get on!

no really, there are just a couple of main issues with greenhouses,

1. they tend to trap a lot of humidity which can create severe outbreaks of mold in the early stages of budding and which can therefore cut you short of being able to reach full bud development, hence drastically reducing both yield and potency. This can be overcome by ensuring you have a highly efficient venting system. In a humid environment, this needs to be given lots of attention, however, this is not such an issue in drier climates.

2. many of the commercially available covering materials for greenhouses tend to notably reduce the transmission of ultra-violet light known for inducing thc production, so many of these products can notably reduce potency in the end product. The available materials vary in this regard so you'd need to enquire about this issue from whoever's flogging the product to you.
