Moose,I believe you live in A;aska? Have you been to this find?

Don't know that one.

But up north on the Yukon River and near the Cosna River, people I knew who lived up there most of the year in the bush and trapped, would sit off of the banks in the water, staying stable in one position by use of throttle on the boat motor, and as the water eroded the bank, mammoth tusks, etc., could sometimes be found protruding from the dirt/silt bank.

They'd run in with their boats and pull the tusks or bones from the bank, which were a 'gray market' item to sell, and the extrication of the bones or ivory could sometimes involve or coincide with further erosion of the banks at inopportune moments, making it a potentially hazardous venture.

I used to buy traditional cold-smoked salmon strips (done the old-style Native way) from a fellow who engaged in trapping up there and would gather mammoth ivory, teeth and other bones, as well as also selling the traditional salmon strips (another gray market) that were once referred to by a name that's no longer acceptable to many.
