Every time people reference this song, I have to remind them that in spite of the song, he was never a millionaire. He gave William Hitchcock almost 400k to hide in a Bahamas bank, the feds busted Hitchcock, he sang like a pussy and ratted out Owsley, Tim Scully, and Nick Sand.

Owsley never got his money back.

He gave away more than 90% of the two five he made and the money that did come in went for base chemicals and glass hardware. He lived a very Spartan life.
