I am impressed with what blinx turns out. Using those cut off half gallon milk jugs in that square foot cabinet.

I am indoors growing organicly.
I start seeds in rapid rooters, after 2-3 days they go into 16 oz. beer cups.
After about 12-16 days I'll put them into my vegetative pots 6 inch squares that hold about 2/3 of a gallon.
They stay in their vegetative pots until sexing or if they reach, depending on strain, about 26-30 inches tall.
Then they go into their flowering pots 10 inch squares that hold 2.5-3 gallons.

Any teas and/or top feeding,in flower?

I have a grow diary titled
Skunk A Rella
the quick answer is yes and yes!

I came back to growing in Jan 2013, right after passage of A64. I started out much the same, discovered that I could skip the smallest container, germ in paper towels & root in beer cups quite well. I've been leaving a 1" space at the top of the cups, covering them loosely with plastic wrap until the sprouts pop up. When they got to be a little taller than the cups they went into 1 gal pots & then again into 5 gal pots after sexing at 12-15". I used 3 gal pots at first, went up to 5 gals because the plants were strongly rootbound at harvest.

After problems with soil recycling, bottle feeding & too soggy mixes I wanted to try airpots & fabric pots. About the same time, Eighths-n-Aces befriended me, turned me on to a scratch soil mix & blumats, so I put it all together on a grow of cantaloupe skunk w/ dynamite results. Beer cups> 1 gal airpots w/ blumats> 5 gal fabric pots w/ blumats. They got a few ewc teas in the process but that's all. With this mix in 5 gal pots, I'm sure plants could go the distance on water alone. The blumats provide excellent moisture control. Ace also taught me a lot about the whole microherd concept.

I did the same w/ the currently flowering batch & it's working as expected. Next round I think I'll try sprouting in the 1 gal airpots w/ blumats simply to avoid a step, see how it works. I'm thinking of getting some fems & sprouting directly in the 5 gal fabric pots if that works well.

Everybody's situation is a little different but I think larger pots avoid problems & give soil growers more time to react when it's not going as desired. 5 gals seems to be near the point of diminished returns for me. At harvest, roots fill the pots well w/o being badly bound up. Here in dry Denver the fabric pots help raise humidity, probably not a good thing for everybody.

I can't let them veg to 2' at all because they explode in stretch in 5 gal pots, more than doubling in height. Even Yumbolt stretched to nearly twice the height.

Cool beans. Airpots, now that they are less expensive, may try them next go round. Still have dozens of nursery containers when working @ commercial gig decades ago....a good airy soil, the right amendments....cannot complain with results.

But with new ideas, comes a change. Airpots...yup! ;o)

Airpots are great. I have the 1.5 gals and the 3.4 gals. They worked great for me.

I like 'em in the 3 liter size for intermediate growth. They're easy to unwind when I up-pot to the 5 gal root pouches. I went with them because it looked like up-potting would be a pain from fabric pots. Either one dries quickly. I don't think I'd do as well if not for the blumats because I'm not as attentive as many growers.

The larger airpots are still expensive. The 21.1 liter size is $20 each locally-

a 10 pack of 5 gal root pouches is only $30 or so.

I'm not sold on the idea of smaller airpots being equivalent to larger conventional pots just because they don't hold as much soil & therefore nutrition. Well, not for my purposes. They'd probably act like that if a grower wants to feed regularly.

I'm happy with 3 gal EJ Aero Pots w/coco/perlite 80/20%. I read that a lot of people have good luck with coco in 2 gal air pots. Could be optimal size. Good luck. -granger
