not green house if you are looking for quality weed maybe to hang out but buy your weed before you go there
and that is the truth

I heard Mello Yellow was first too - though the present shop is not in the original location

RUSLAND have licence no 001

But who cares who was first - all of the Pioneers deserve BIG respect for the risks they took.

which is the name of the coffee shop where the owner lets off a co2 cylinder each few hours to make the newbies jump out of their skin. Funny to take friends there, but I cant remember its name. Somewhere around dam square.

is it like a jiant joint above the bar?
lets off a cloud?
near leidersplein kindof behind the bulldog
seemed like a locals place, even tho it was in high tourist area.. but most everyone sang some song after.
more of a beer place
sorry dont rem the name either but it reminded me of a bar back home where the owner has rubber spiders on strings that hell let down once in a while on some unsuspecting lass to make her screech......

First official coffeeshop in Holland was Mellow Yellow. The guy behind it was Wernard Bruining. He was selling weed and hash out of his house, and got the idea to run the business from a café. He opened it at Weesperzijde in Amsterdam in 1972, together with some friends.
The Mellow Yellow still exists, but only in the name. Wernard and the others sold the place, and it is no longer to be found in the original location.
Not only did Wernard start the first coffeeshop, he also opened Holland's first growshop, the Positronics. Some of you older growers might remember the Positronics shop. Wernard kept this soccertable in the shop and he was near unbeatable at it.
Positronics was also a seedline, and many of the strains that circulate today have their origin in the Positronics strains.
While some people in the biz get talked about all the time, Wernard is one of those that rarely get mentioned. Still, the Dutch Cannabis scene owes him a lot.

Thanks Rosy - good info - and Didn't Wernard stand for the 'free green' party (i wont even try the Dutch spelling) in the elections last november? - still an activist after 35 years - BIG BIG respect

One of my favourite hangouts is the Coffeeshop 36, at Warmoesstraat. It is basically just a pub-feeling kind of coffeeshop and the weed is average. But at the far end of the place there's a smoker's lounge with big windows opening up at the Damrak canal. I love sitting here in the summertime and watch the boats glide by and the hustle bustle on the other side, puffing on some stoney weed.

Couldn't Choose One, Picked Eleven

Couldn't Choose One, Picked Eleven

Tried to narrow down to one, best I could do was eleven:
1.Barneys: before 9:30 am or late evening, but way too tourist crowded otherwise.
2.Dampkring: alcohol, after April...?
3.Willie Wortels Sensimilla, Haarlem: great remodel, smoke, atmosphere.
4.Rookerij, Amstel: behind Rembrantplein, good place to come down off mushies, Escher/Gothic feel, low lights, canal view.
5.Noon: personal favorite, nice Blueberry, close to museums, off Leidseplein.
6. Thee Boat: Closed for years, physically behind Bluebird on canal. If you were there, you know. Enjoyed sitting inside looking thru windows at water level.
7. Thee Huis,Haarlem: when I retire, this is where I'll be.Small, narrow side-street, six people and it's crowded. Local feel. No tourists, 'cept me. Ambience.
8. Home Grown Fantaseeds: say "cheese", use the toilet, enjoy the view.
9.Pink Floyd: upstairs, though I've met rude staff there.
10.Styx:excellent hash, local get-and-go (a good sign). spartan atmoshere.
11.Bluebird; upstairs, nice selection, gets crowded noisy.

The very first pack of seed that I ever bought was Positronics Old Ed that I bought from Nol in the Haarlem Hemp museum. Its very citrusy. I still have some more seeds that I need to grow out one day...
