Mine's all fairly new-school:

Onkyo SR705 THX receiver
Infocus X10 1080P projector
DCM 3-way towers with 12" woofers
DCM 3 way center
Bose surrounds (left/right/2 centers)
Custom-built sub, 18" Mach5 DVC sub in a 10 cubic foot ported box, tuned to 19hz, powered by a Mackie 1400W RMS DJ amp (bridged.)
Playstation 3 w/Eye, LocationFree player, and dual PSP's linked.
PS3 is networked so my 3 computers can all feed it audio/video files
JVC turntable
Kenwood dual tape deck
Motorola HD DVR
Wii
All networked together with either wireless or gigabit CAT5e lines.

I figured, if I'm gonna spend a lot of time at home tending a grow, I might as well have some world-class gear to entertain myself. Movie night rocks!

Damn, Lazy... that's way new-school. I saw this thread title and couldn't resist.

My main system is on hiatus right now due to a glitch in the left channel of the preamp and my inability to find a certified McIntosh tech that I can afford, but my system is an heirloom from my dad from the early 70's. I still remember jamming out to stuff like Skynyrd, Edgar Winter and Big Brother & the Holding Co. on it with my dad when I was 2 or 3 years old. It's solid-state, but it's McIntosh solid state... sounds better than many tube systems I've heard. Plus, fancy blue glowing analog dials behind 1/2" of black glass make up for a lot.

McIntosh MC2505 50Wx2 power amp
McIntosh C26 preamp
McIntosh MR73 tuner
all in the original walnut PanLoc cases
basic 80's Panasonic turntable, upgrading to a vintage B&O
Sony CDP-101 CD player with upgraded caps (first commercially available CD player, fucking bulletproof)
Technics dual cassette
Bose 901 direct-reflecting speakers with the equalizer

I've got a friend with a giant pair of horn-loaded Klipsch that I'm trying to talk him out of for which I want to build a pair of monoblock class A tube amps with fat octal 6SN7's in the preamp. I have a ton of vintage USA 6V6GT power tubes in my collection, I might go with those running in parallel for that classic radio warmth, or I might go with 6L6/5881's for the fat punch. Still not sure. I wanted to use EL34's, but good European NOS is getting impossible to find and the new stuff just isn't very good. I've got a matched pair of NOS 1940's glass-sealed Vitamin Q driver caps saved up for this project, too. Oh man... those things are just pure liquid in guitar amps.

I've also got another project in the works for a monophonic system for listening to my old mono records. I found a single mint Dynaco A25 speaker at a thrift store for $3(!), and I have a bunch of single NOS EL84/6BQ5 tubes in my collection that can't be matched well into pairs. So I'm whipping up a little single-ended EL84 amp, maybe 5 watts on a good day, 12AU7 preamp, fully loaded with Bumblebee caps I harvested from a 1959 Baldwin A5 church organ. That's going to be my trimming room system.

Great thread idea... who else is into their gear?

Got a Marantz dolby Processor, Sony Graphic Equaliser, Garard turntable, Jamo speakers etc sat in a cupboard, just never used them anymore.

el dub

We're running hella tubes in our house.

One system is powered by manley stingray's el-84s and the other dynaco's el-34s/eastern electric mini max bba. Both systems push Omega single driver speakers and share a carey hdcd. One system gets its bottom end from a sunfire sub, the other an Omega.

One of my best friends helped pioneer the return of Valve Hi Fi amps with Mr Manley, amazing just how good the sound is, you just sit there listening to all the backing tracks in your fave tunes you have never really heard before.

Yeah, rad thread. Everyone has something different and something good from one end of the price spectrum to the other. Personally, I'd never have a Mac system if my stepmom didn't hate the way it clashed with her decor. I'd probably be rocking an 80's Yorx or a thriftstore Magnavox console or something if I didn't get off on building my own shit.

In the end, what comes out of the speakers is what counts. I'm off to crank the new Justin Bieber, catch you later.

I am looking to add a AV cinema 5.1 system... and I am struggling to decide on what to do.

I have a lovely set of fronts in the SBL's, and could match them up to the naim centre and rears with sub. But thats around the £2000 mark. THe total of what I want to spend. And I truly believe in matching amps and speakers, so I would need a good at least £1000 av receiver to go with it.

Then there is the lack of space issue and the nice bose accoustimas system, #10 to be precise. With a cheaper amp, looking at a spend of around £1500....

ahhh, do I save for longer and match my existing and fill my house back up with kit or do I get the little satellites. Been trying to decide for a month... I think I should save a few more months and go for quality.

I like surround sound, nothing better than getting out of your gourd on sativa than listening to something on surround sound. No room for the extra speakers atm so having to make do with stereo.

Cool Thread Diggin the Music Forum

Herbalizor something to consider is that nearly all music made is in stereo and those 5.1 systems do nothing at all for your stereo music, a few artist have made dvd's with video and used the 5.1 tech, but alot of them dvd's the music was never intended for any more than stereo so even dvd's with music are for the most part stereo tracks. Films on the other hand are always made with 5.1 technology now. maybe one day the musicians will utilize this tech more but the way the music biz is goin maybe not.

if your priorty is music, you shouldn't buy a 5.1 system

Curious what Old Pink is listenin to with that Stylin kit?

Only studio monitors at the moment

KRK K-ROK's

I bought a Hafler amp with the K-ROK's in the States but when I moved to Eurpoe the amp wouldn't work w/o a buzz coz the hz was different and the voltage converter only changed the volts.

I replaced it with a simple Technics SU-V620M2 stereo amp with no surround, dolby or even loudness. I can and do bypass the bass and trebel for a clean 200w.

A note about home speakers the best I ever owned were Bose 701's Wow... tower speakers Big unlike most Bose, the sound was Massive & Crisp.

ATH M-50 cans... Luv Em

Akai – APC40 a mixer specially made to use with Ableton Live 8

Live 8 runs on a Acer Aspire 5738ZG nothin special but it gets the job done Live on the other hand is Everything you could want to Produce and or do Live sets, could be all your original sounds you play live or use it more like a dj and mix tracks. I'm worken at gettin sets together where I use samples i've made and mix em in with proper tracks. From somebody who only knew Vinyl mixin Live 8 is da Bomb I can't believe what I can do with her it's most def lit my Fire again.

a link to a mix of Deep Minimal & Tech i've been gettin into lately
http://soundcloud.com/injoy

you can listen or dl

Few years ago I had to sell, justified already been like 6 yrs w/o a mix coz of back trouble :badday:

2 Technics MKII1200
Pioneer DJM-600
HK LUCAS 600w Active PA not harmon kardon

HK systems are top quality amazing sound. Had that set up in a studio where I could make as much sound as I could handle. Ohh do miss that place

Live 8 has given me a renewed passion to dj coz I can practice in a chair won't ever need to lug vinyl and my sets can be infinitely more technical. I don't miss my old kit as much now and I recorded most of my vinyl before sellin my decks so I still mix all my fav tracks. I always played around with production but never really put out anything good, even that's changin with Live 8
