what happened to rep points?

I disagree. There were/are quite a few disrespectful passive-aggressive types that would neg good people just for disagreeing with them. And there were straight JACKASSES with tons of + reps. Anyways, if you have intelligent, helpful things to say and share, your rep will be known. If you are unhelpful and a troll, your rep will be known. Those bars, while pretty, change nothing.

I liked the reps thing, although it wasn't a great indicator of the credibility of the poster, it was always nice to be able to receive and give positive rep.
I think voting a post up or down was much more useful, as it allowed a sort of "Wisdom of Crowds" quality control. The rep system stifled it a bit though as voting a post down gave negative rep and probably put people off doing it.
I like the idea of everyone being encouraged to vote posts up or down so that anyone reading a thread would have a good idea of the views of everyone else reading the thread. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I'm too stoned to type it all again.

A decent compromise between having a rep option and having none would to just have a k+ option as many members have suggested in the past.
Get rid of the helpful post thing and replace it with a k+ button and the option to leave a message.
That way everybody is happy, except for the trolls and malcontents who dish out bad rep and are probably the reason why the rep thingy was disabled to begin with.

I think CM was saying that being able to only give positive rep/K+ would be good (no negrep anymore). But maybe I got that wrong.
