Does the other person's child feel like your own now? Is it awkward meeting up with the real father during visits?
Man.. I fell in love with a woman years ago that had a 3 year old from a previous relationship. I've been her full-time "dad" ever since.. It's been one hell of a ride to say the least. She's 8 now and really becoming her own person. It's amazing to watch them grow over the years.

I was always unsure if I really wanted kids, until I ended up with someone elses. I've learned so much about myself in the process that I'm sure I'd like to have my own some day.

I wish my kids would hurry up and have kids so I can teach them how to turn on all electrical appliances and lights...

And then go outside and play.

Just as they did as youngsters.

I'm gonna like being Evil Grampa.

Don't forget to teach them how to assess where dads nuts are in relation to his head, so that they get their aim just right when jumping on the bed a 5 am on Christmas morning and birthdays.....

Kids are grown and off on their own. The oldest is about to make me a Grandad in a few months.

I had 'em young, wasn't prepared, and worked my ass off to keep 'em fed, housed, child support paid and insured.

That said, I'm glad I got it out of the way. After #3 I got a vasectomy. Figured out what caused that shit and got it fixed!

Now I'm 50, it's just me and the wife. Kids drop by, then go home. Nice.

sounds like the kids are not the problem there.

Agreed, I made this point i guess more to illustrate an example of someone i know having kids for all the wrong reasons. It may not happen for a year, maybe 2 or 3 years, but there is close to zero chance they stay together longer than this. I know my friend well and he will check out sooner or later, leaving a path of destruction in his wake. His dad had like a dozen kids to many different woman and he said to me one day maybe he "might" end up like this too. He already has a 3rd kid to some random that he pretends doesn't exist.

I just feel sorry for the kids in this case as they are going to suffer

I'd like to have kids.

I don't like the idea of being with a woman and she cheats around, and then asks you to pay for 18 years.

I always have a great time with my nieces and nephews, but you never hear me complain when they go home.

I LOVE kids. Love to see my nieces & nephews. Regret not having my own. In your case, NO!!!!!. I don't think you should breed if you hate kids, although, if you did, you would probably change your mind.

The subject of raising someone else's kids is something i find fascinating. Kudos to the poster that has done this, that's really stepping up to the plate!

The poll results so far are very interesting too, the 2 "regret" options have received some love, something i was unsure would happen.

For a topic that has the potential to upset a few people, everyone is behaving very well up in here!

Nice one Retro, that's cool you love kids mate. Just to clarify for me, i don't hate all kids. Just the really dumb, noisy, rude, mean kids get under my skin. A polite well mannered QUIET child i like alot!

Your last comment is exactly what my Mum says. When they're your kids every noise they make will be like sweet music. Hmmm i duno if id take it that far lol but i do understand the point

Quiet kids=oxymoron.
Go outside any schoolyard. Kids make noise, lots of it, especially in large groups when playing.
But, go out in the street in any big city in U.S., and you will hear an incredible amount of noise coming from the hip/hop/rapper crowd, even females, hollering in the middle of the street. I think people in U.K. are more dignified and quieter. It's noisy as hell where I'm at, and it's not kids, at least not young kids. I'm talking teens/20 somethings. They are blasting bass so loud, it's shaking the ground. Kids are a blast because they are innocent, and they say whatever pops into their heads. They don't worry about political correctness.
They are us before we got opinionated/beaten down.
They are "free".
"Mum" is right. Why do you think she put up with you?

There is someone who lived in my area.

He had a wife, worked hard all his life. She didn't. She spent days at home enjoying herself.

One day, he comes home for lunch time (he used to eat at work),
he finds her bent over the kitchen table getting serviced.

She looked at him, and said, I am gonna get you for every penny you have.

Guy put everything on his dad's name and killed himself.

I believe it. This is where proper & thorough selection needs to take place. Just like with an advanced cannabis breeder, selection is done over many generations with painstakingly close attention to detail. Alot can be learnt from this in regards to selection of a suitable partner. Look at their parents, their grandparents, their brothers and sisters. That should give you a very good insight into what someone might become. There are always exceptions to the rules of course but i believe its a solid method of selection.

Someone with the right characteristics and a good heart, would not be found bent over the table and then say im going to take you for everything you have. That sort of behaviour is reserved for gutter trash, or in the plant kingdom, an unhealthy plant with macro and micro nute deficincies that is also a low and sloppy yielder. This bitches never make it past one generation, unfortunately in human genetics we do not have this luxury. In fact, the whore gutter trash girls are usually the one's that breed the most, sigh

had two boys ,grown up now but they were funny ,noisy, rode motor cycle's and won and lost races. had noisy hard rock music that I still love, they used to get out the window and sit outside till I screwed the windows shut lol. they got into kitchen early one morn and made a cake on the floor , flour ,eggs, jam etc all in one nice mess, when they got older it was worse haha, now both still noisy drink and smoke just like I did lol, one's got 4 top kid's and here's the latest. the sound of happy kid's playing is a great sound, but not when there fuckin grizzling. KID'S ARE US.

My wife and I never had kids, she wanted other things . I was very proud of what she was able to accomplish. She passed away recently. I guess it is only natural to have second thoughts about it now. I surely do. I still think that our choices were very responsible, but I am not at all sure I would go with the same choices if...
Tough subject material you have here !

I love my kid and wife.. No regrets, other than I wish I had started earlier in life.

Speaking for myself, I create, build, learn every day I need that in my life. This is what dads have to do. I built a zombie bunker outta boxes the other day and me and my kid played zombies.. It was awesome.

Being a dad isn't for everybody.. I am happy growing my little sprout ;) .

Where's the option for having / wanting a wife but not wanting kids? Lots of women don't want kids either. You don't have to spend your life alone just because you don't like kids.

There is something sad about this option so often being forgotten about. People really should feel like they have an choice in the matter and actually think about it. . . not treat it as an inevitability.
