i used to use it in the garden, now i just use it on my food. foliar spraying seemed to work best for me. very small amounts.

I'm an organic grower who is looking to become even more organic (less store-bought ingredients, etc...). However, i just finished a prolonged battle with root aphids and am a bit shy about using compost I make myself, particularly if it's been outside. How can I minimize the threat my compost (and the bugs potentially contained therein) pose? Is a worm bin the only 'safe' way to compost for yourself?

Don't let bugs scare you off from composting. IMO, it is the #1 ingredient to good soil, and besides that, the process is fun as hell and actually makes growing easier.

Most of the bugs you'll find in compost are good bugs that will work against the bad bugs, eventually destroying most over time. Putting good quality compost into your mix, making teas with it and topdressing it will greatly decrease your bug outbreaks. And by good quality I mean the stuff you make yourself.
