‘Love in Mind’ (*Live performance on the ‘Time Fades Away’ album)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxhC094nFew

"Love In Mind"
Woke up this morning
with love in mind
It was raining outside
but my love still shined
Kept me warm
till my plane touched the sky

And I've seen love
make a fool of a man
He tried to make a loser win.
But I've got nothing to lose
I can't get back again.

Man made rules
been holdin' back my love
Can't hold it back no more.
Churches long preach sex is wrong
Jesus where has nature gone?
What am I doing here?
What am I doing here?
What am I doing here?

Woke up this morning
with love in mind
It was raining outside
but my love still shined
Kept me warm
till my plane touched the sky

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun

"Black Dog On My Shoulder"

There's a black dog on my shoulder again
Licking my neck and saying she's my friend
Solitude the one thing that I really miss
Guess my life is a compromise

There's a black dog on my shoulder again
I'm playing with it but it's gone to my head
Like Carlito's way there are no exit signs

Freeze me there until I am numb
My mouth is so dry
My eyes are shut tight
There's a black dog a coming tonight
Black dog's a coming tonight

My dilemma but not my choice
Winston Churchill can you hear my voice
Melodrama there in my kitchen sink
Double vision the way it is

Am I coming home to you again
Or am I stupid just by design
Does it matter if you really ever know

This black dog is out of control
My mouth is so dry
My eyes are shut tight
There's a black dog a coming tonight
Black dog's a coming tonight

Am I coming home to you again
Or am I stupid just by design
Does it matter if you really ever know

This black dog is out of control
My mouth is so dry
My eyes are shut tight
There's a black dog a coming tonight
Black dog's a coming tonight

[YOUTUBEIF]rr70kVCtpek[/YOUTUBEIF]

Well it ain't somethin' that I like to see
And I hope it never happens to me
When ya see a smiling woman and a frowning man
She got a ring in his nose and a ring on her hand

Well I knew a guy and he was real funky ya know
That was of course until he got lucky
When ya see a smiling woman and a frowning man
She got a ring in his nose and a ring on her hand

Now I know all you men think that you all right
And the one you got well she's all right
When ya see a smiling woman and a frowning man
She got a ring in his nose and a ring on her hand

Well I knew a guy and he was real funky ya know
That was of course until he got lucky
When ya see a smiling woman and a frowning man
She got a ring in his nose and a ring on her hand

Now I know all you men think that you all right
And the one you got well she's all right
When ya see a smiling woman and a frowning man
She got a ring in his nose and a ring on her hand
Ring in his nose and a ring on her hand
Ring in his nose and a ring on her hand
Ring in his nose and a ring on her hand

Oh how's that
Yeah
Everybody's got to be unlucky sometime
That's the way it goes

Lloyd Cole & The Commotions – Lost Weekend

Lloyd Cole & The Commotions – Lost Weekend

It took a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam
And double pneumonia in a single room
And the sickest joke was the price of the medicine
Are you laughing at me now?
May I please laugh along with you? This morning I woke up from a deep, unquiet sleep
With ashtray clothes and this lonely heart's pen
With which I wrote for you a lovesong in tattoo upon my palm
'Twas stolen from me when Jesus took my handYou see I, I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it
Drop me and I'll fall to pieces
Too easily
I was a king bee with a head full of attitude
Wore my heart on my sleeve like a stain
And my aim was taboo, you
Could we meet in the marketplace
Did I ever hey please, did you wound my knees? You see I, I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it
Drop me and I'll fall to pieces
Yeah too easilyThere's nobody else to blame
I hang my head in a crying shame
There is nobody else to blame
Nobody else except my sweet selfIt took a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam
Twenty four gone years to conclude in tears
And the sickest joke was the price of the medicine
Are you laughing at me now
May I please laugh along?
Check Out
I was a king bee with a head full of attitude
An ashtray heart on my sleeve, wounded knees
And my one love song was a tattoo upon my palm
You wrote upon me when you took my handYou see I, I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it
Drop me and I'll fall to pieces too easily
Too easily
Too easily

John Cooper Clarke:Kung Fu International Lyrics

John Cooper Clarke:Kung Fu International Lyrics

Outside the take-away, Saturday night
A bald adolescent, asks me out for a fight
He was no bigger than a two-penny fart
He was a deft exponent of the martial art
He gave me three warnings:
Trod on me toes, stuck his fingers in my eyes
And kicked me in the nose
A rabbit punch made me eyes explode
My head went dead, I fell in the road

I pleaded for mercy
I wriggled on the ground
He kicked me in the balls
And said something profound
Gave my face the millimetre tread
Stole me chop suey and left me for dead

Through rivers of blood and splintered bones
I crawled half a mile to the public telephone
Pulled the corpse out the call box, held back the bile
And with a broken index finger, I proceeded to dial

I couldn't get an ambulance
The phone was screwed
The receiver fell in half
It had been kung fu'd

A black belt karate cop opened up the door
Demanding information about the stiff on the floor
He looked like an extra from Yang Shang Po
He said "What's all this then
Ah so, ah so, ah so."
He wore a bamboo mask
He was gen'ned on zen
He finished his devotions and he beat me up again

Thanks to that embryonic Bruce Lee
I'm a shadow of the person that I used to be
I can't go back to Salford
The cops have got me marked
Enter the Dragon
Exit Johnny Clarke

"Long As I Can See The Light"

(Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Put a candle in the window, 'cause I feel I've got to move.
Though I'm going, going, I'll be coming home soon,
'Long as I can see the light.

Pack my bag and let's get movin', 'cause I'm bound to drift a while.
When I'm gone, gone, you don't have to worry long,
'Long as I can see the light.

Guess I've got that old trav'lin' bone, 'cause this feelin' won't leave me alone.
But I won't, won't be losin' my way, no, no
'Long as I can see the light.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Oh, Yeah!

Put a candle in the window, 'cause I feel I've got to move.
Though I'm going, going, I'll be coming home soon,
Long as I can see the light.
Long as I can see the light.
Long as I can see the light.
Long as I can see the light.
Long as I can see the light.

"Jolene"

Cocaine flame in my bloodstream
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane
Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes in the early morning rain
Lately my hands they don't feel like mine
My eyes been stung with dust, I'm blind
Held you in my arms one time
Lost you just the same
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face down in the ditch
Booze in my hair
Blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
in the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
Ah, La, La, La, La, La
Jolene
Been so long since I seen your face
or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase for way too long
A man needs something he can hold onto
A nine pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face down in the ditch
Booze in my hair
Blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
La, La, La, La, La, La, La
Jolene
La, La, La, La, La, La, La
Jolene

In a sound reminiscent of classic R&B and Gospel....

In a sound reminiscent of classic R&B and Gospel....

...my oldest son gave me this album on an MP3 recording.

Like myself at his age and beyond, music gave a place to go for guidance outside of standard channels; meditation, perspective, strength, and answers.

This was one of the better gifts my older boy gave me in the last few years.

"River"

Been traveling these wide roads for so long
My heart’s been far from you
Ten-thousand miles gone

Oh, I wanna come near and give ya
Every part of me
But there is blood on my hands
And my lips aren’t clean

In my darkness I remember
Momma’s words reoccur to me
"Surrender to the good Lord
And he’ll wipe your slate clean"

Take me to your river
I wanna go
Oh, go on
Take me to your river
I wanna know

Tip me in your smooth waters
I go in
As a man with many crimes
Come up for air
As my sins flow down the Jordan

Oh, I wanna come near and give ya
Every part of me
But there is blood on my hands
And my lips aren’t clean

Take me to your river
I wanna go
Go on,
Take me to your river
I wanna know

I wanna go, wanna go, wanna go
I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go
Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know
Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go
Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know

Take me to your river
I wanna go
Lord, please let me know
Take me to your river
I wanna know

‘Smoke Two Joints’

I smoke two joints in the morning, I smoke two joints at night
I smoke two joints in the afternoon, it makes me feel alright
I smoke two joints in time of peace, and two in time of war
I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints, and then I smoke two more
Oh, my daddy he once told me, "Son, you be hard working man"
My mama she once told me, "Son, you do the best you can"
But then one day I met a man who came to me and said
"Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of head"

So now,
I smoke two joints when I get up, in the car I smoke two joints
I smoke two joints when I play video game? And at every ten thousand points
(I smoke two joints)
I smoke two joints in time of peace, and two in time of war
I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints, and then I smoke two more

Oh, my daddy he once told me, "Son, you be hard working man"
My mama she once told me, "Son, you do the best you can"
But then one day I met a man who came to me and said
"Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of head"

I smoke two joints in the morning, I smoke two joints at night

If 6 were 9 - Jimi Hendrix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZuFq4CfRR8

Unfortunately they cutoff a bit of the song at the end of the video

Yeah, sing the song, Bro

If the sun refuse to shine
I don't mind, I don't mind
If the mountains fell in the sea
let it be, it ain't me
Alright, 'cos I got my own world to look through
And I ain't gonna copy you

Now if 6 turned out to be 9
I don't mind, I don't mind
Alright, if all the hippies cut off all their hair
I don't care, I don't care
Dig, 'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you

White collared conservative flashing down the street

Pointing their plastic finger at me
They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die
But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high
Wave on, wave on
Fall mountains, just don't fall on me
Go ahead on Mr. Business man, you can't dress like me
Sing on Brother, play on drummer

‘Let it Be’

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be

For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow
Let it be

I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

‘Stranger in a Strange Land’

How many days has it been
Since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways
That I can make you laugh

Or do I only know how to make you cry
When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret
With the wise man

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

How many miles will it take
To see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by my side when the morning comes

And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king

He's a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers

Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Has got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race

Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
And that's a thing

Do you recognize the bells of truth
When you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen
To the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

Rebels in another time... Lost in the journey to self.

Rebels in another time... Lost in the journey to self.

What ever the thoughts or reactions to heroin and the opiate issues in our world, the Drug War exacerbated many of the symtoms it claimed to be addressing, typically making matters worse in one way or another..

It was either in 1969 or 1970, in Buffalo or Rochester New York, if I recall correctly, that Lou Reed, in his classic rebellion and exhibitionism, walked out onto a dark stage, but for a beam from a spot light illuminating the tall, lone, backless wooden stool that so many guitar performers used, sat on the stool, flipped his acoustic guitar over on his lap, making it into a make-shift table top, fixed a spoon and syringe, rigged up, tied a tourniquet, and plunged into infamy, being arrested immediately, leaving concert-goers without their expected performance. Unless watching Lou Reed’s confrontaiton of the foolishness of the Drug War’s stated and ill-conceived goals of regulating peoples’ relationships with their own minds and bodies can be accepted as a substitute performance.

A more politically motivated intoxication than Jerry Jeff Walker's later tendency of arriving at gigs too drunk to sit on his stool, let alone stand.

Reed's reported statement referenced above, despite my young age at the time, stunned me into thought about the whole questioning of what type of government regulates, via criminal sanctions ,persons' relationships with themselves, and the prospects for success in such ploys of utter folly.

Some of his music would go on to become almost like theme songs for that era. The more classic live performances of 'Sweet Jane,' with their elongated guitar instrumental intros, still get my heart going like bag-pipes at a rally or funeral.

"Lisa Says"

Lisa says, on a night like this
it'd be so nice, if you gave me a kiss
And Lisa says, honey, for just one smile
I'll sing and play for you for the longest while

Lisa says
Lisa says
Lisa says, oh, no
Lisa says

Lisa says, honey, you must think -
- I'm some kind of California fool
the way you treat me just like some kind of tool
Lisa says, hey baby, if you stick your tongue in my ear
then the scene around here will become very clear

Lisa says, oh no
Lisa says, hey, don't you be a little baby
Lisa says, oh, no
Lisa says

Hey, if you're looking for a good time Charlie
well, that's not really what I am
You know, some good time Charlie
always out, having his fun

But if you're looking for some good, good lovin'
then sit yourself right over here
You know that those good, those good times
they just seem to pass me by, just like pie in the sky

And Lisa says, on a night like this
it'd be so nice if you gave me a kiss
And Lisa says, hey baby, for just one little smile
I'll sing and play for you for the longest while
let me hear you now

Lisa says, oh, no, no
Lisa says, hey, don't you be a little baby
Lisa says, oh, no
Lisa says

Why am I so shy
Why am I so shy, Gee, you know those
good good times, they just seem to pass me by
Why am I so shy

First time I saw you I was talking to myself
I said, hey, you got such pretty, pretty eyes
(that pretty eyes)

Now that you're next to me I just get so upset
And Lisa, will you tell me, why am I so shy

Why am I so shy
Why am I so shy, well, you know that those
good, good times, they just seem to pass me by
Why am I so shy

And Lisa says, on a night like this
it'd be so nice if you gave me a kiss
And Lisa says, honey, for just one smile
I'll sing and play for you for the longest while

Lisa says, oh, no, now
Lisa says, hey don't you be a little baby
Lisa says, oh, no
