What altitude is best for pot growing? I feel like sea level gets fog, too high of altitude the air gets too thin. What is the best altitude? In Cali to be more precise.

The higher up you grow the more uvb and sunlight in general will hit the plants. I vote higher.

I think it's the top of the bud!! As crazy as the weather is, the best altitude might be an indoor grow. Drought and wildfires hard to deal with.

i dream of retiring in hawaii at 5000 feet. honestly if i had my choice i would try and find a balance between treeline and a long season. try and get as high as you can go with a late october/early november finish.

it really depends on your specific location's micro climate and thermic layer.

I've grown outdoors from 1000 feet above sea level, and even tried to do so at 10,000 feet. at 10,000 feet plants grew so slowly that it seemed they did not grow at all.

at 1000 feet there was too much humidity and bugs.

at 7000 feet I found a spot in a specific micro-climate that was heaven! but the guy who owned the land turned out to be a dick head so that project fell apart.

also found a perfect micro-climate at 3000 feet, dry, almost no bugs. grew gorila style only a few plants, 30 or so. but watering was a challenge.

also tried many other altitudes... since I was in a state of the tropical andes that went from sea level up to 12,000 feet. tons of micro climates and thermic layers as you go up.

It's not just about altitude. Climate (and geographic latitude & longitude) is more important. In Central Europe cannabis wouldn't grow well on 2000 m (6561 ft); in India, however, it would grow just fine on the same altitude.

Well... I'll go with where I am, on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. We're damn near smack on 2,500' elevation, and the beauty in that is that we are, as the locals say, "Above the fog and below the snow!"

I doubt 'thin' air is an issue for cannabis as it is for humans. I think the sunlight itself is much stronger, as I know I tan in less than half the time if I'm up at Lake Tahoe, for example. What I do find to be an issue is that often RH gets waaaayyy too low, almost and sometimes desert-like.

However, all of this needs to be qualified to say that I've never grown cannabis anywhere else than where I am right now.

We are talking California here, however your info is great. Something to think about for sure.

ive had great success at sea level and up to 1500 ft. have a garden this year at 2300 and its growing faster than anything in the past, but its a more extreme climate, windy and cold nights. my neighbors up at 3000 feet dont have any plants in the straight up outdoors, just greenhouses, the wind is just too strong on the ridge top.

kces01, 7000ft near the equator sounds amazing to be honest.

narrow leaf (sativas) will usually do way better than broad leaf (indicas),

broad leaf will do good too but will be smaller and if there is high humidity are more prone to mold... hybrids do good too, but shorter since the photoperiod near the equator is not ideal for plants vegetating massively. what's your photoperiod like? humidity? north or south of the equator?

Colombian cultivars sound like what you need.

peace

I'm above 9000ft, near the equator. I'm surprised at how well the C-plant grows here, but I would think a 1000ft lower or more is better. There the vegetation just explodes.

sea level or close to it usually has a longer growing season...yeehaw..I have noticed no difference in mountain grown weed from the uv..maybe after many generations it might be noticeable..but I can grow more crops at lower elevations .....
