Hot Mix girls in their 47th day of bloom.
possibly slightly overferted? or this might be heat stress effect as thetop budsare quite close to the HPS bulb.
i am now giving them a pure water flush just in case...
top buds:
one of the lower buds:
and ChemdogDD-x-SourDiesel ibl in day 26 (still stretching a little):
today the CD-x-SD ibl is in her 40th day of flower:
honestly, i am not very happy about the bud distribution.
i scrogged her a little bit too late an then directed all the stems sideways. therefore most of the (big) buds are now in the edges of the screen while the middle of it could accomodate some more...
well, that's a learning!
ok guys, now get ready. i want to show you the most bizzare bud i have seen in this grow operation.
this is the biggest bud on one of the HotMix ladies. it looks as if it is revegging???
it produces like 8 new shoots! :S
i called it the monster bud - check this out:
if revegging is the case then i think there are two options:
1. there is something screwed with its genetics
or
2. my timer went crazy much earlier than i noticed... and it performed some strange lighting schedule which led to revegging
only 1 of the 3 plants in the warren shows this behaviour. and only on 1 of the buds!
i already replaced the timer and all is fine, still this is so strange...
Day 40 n' 50 eh? ....ahh seems like it was only yesterday the wee ones were stumbling around the burrow with their eyes still shut. Now their getting all grown up.
'the monster bud' looks like its going to be fun to watch lol. Damnedest lookin' thing.
That hot mix girl is looking better and better everytime i visit your thread! I can't wait to see her mature and all "filled out".
'The monster bud' in my opinion is doing what some would call "fox tailing". Quite common. I could be wrong though, it looks a lot like it is revegging. Far too much stretch in the stalks for that to be fox tailing me thinks.
need to read about fox tailing - i haven't heard that term before. any links that are worth a read?
edit: the ICM query returns only a few threads and after a short peek i find this one the most informative because there are a lot of pix to show what fox tailing is.
however the difference between fox tails documented up there and mine is that 'real' fox tails are packed with buds while in my case they are quite loose, scarce in pistils and generally looking rather like revegging. time will tell.
my other fellow suggests this may be a result of high temp. fair enough to say so because this bud is at the shortest distace to bulb. and in fact it is quite hot in there...
i noticed the same on other buds, on both Hot Mix girls.
it appeared on the buds which are now bigger and closer to the bulb - so the temperature hypothesis may still be valid. i don't like this behaviour (lots of stretch = wasted energy and little buds).
now looking back at my pics from a few days ago i notice it was already starting on these two buds:
i snipped this excessive growth tips off and left only the monster-bud intact to see what happens next - just for fun
btw, the monster bud is writing its own story now, it looks like a completely new plant growing at the top of the Hot Mix bunny LOL. i will update you with some pics soon.
coming back to heat issue...
my reflector works like a freaking satelite dish but instead of signals it gathers all the heat from the bulb and directs it downward
for now i only raised the reflector higher above canopy level but this results in weaker light penetration. not a long-term solution.
i need to figure out a solution for future grows if i stay with this reflector. maybe a CPU fan at the top which would suck hot air upwards? we shall see after this run is over.
Bunnies Monster bud is not fox tailing. Fox tailing does not include new shoots/tops entirely. From what I have seen, its new calyxs forming ontop of already finishing calyxs and tailing outwards with fresh pistils.
Probably the simplest explanation is related to your timer going haywire. That happened to me during my first grow--too much current flowing through it borked it and gave me two days of darkness. Oops!
my other fellow suggests this may be a result of high temp. fair enough to say so because this bud is at the shortest distace to bulb. and in fact it is quite hot in there...
hey hey, nice discussion!
all your opinions are valuable, good food for thought in fact. thanks!
here is the update. the rabbit burrow goes first: ChemdogDD-x-SD ibl in bloom day 45.
(just to make you hold your breath and focus attention before the monster bud appears LOL!)
things look quite good and it is almost an automatic grow now, i only water from time to time.
on one of the pics you can notice swelling seeds-to-be - a result of my pollination action with the pollen from ChemdogDD-x-SD ibl male!
In regards to fox tailing, imho 9 times out of 10 they occur due to high heat. Some strains do show this naturally johnny blaze for instance. In my thread you can clearly see the yellowing and clawing leaves due to high light intensity and heat. I have seen this before with the 400w over the rdwc I was running with two different strains showing fox tail.
For my cab Next time ill grow the plants for less time so they don't overtake the closet like the last two did. Temps are not an issue until I cant raise the light any higher. Lol
