new grow

new grow

I finally got my new setup ready and its going nicely

50 litre tub
1/4 strength hydro nutes
6 x 7.5cm pots
Air pump (need another one though)
Light = 2 x 18w flourescent and 2 x 15w warm white cfl (adding another 2 cool white cfl's)

Strain is Swazi (same as the last)

Damn I didnt realize how heavy a full 50 litre tub can be. Trying to find air pumps at the big retail stores is such a mission, I went to Game and De La Rays and all I found there was water pumps. I'll have to go look at the pet stores 2moro.

Looks good.
Have you thought about an inspection and refill hole? Just to make everything easier...

I just lift the top off, is seems to be working fine that way. A little shaking the plants never hurts, these sativas need sum stem strength.
Cant wait to get the Hashberry seeds I ordered :)

Caramella grow

Caramella grow

My first harvest of the year and the first in Mozambique  . Sorry for the quality of the photos, I’m still figuring out my new camera  .

The grow was filled with trials and tribulations. I was not able to document it all, as I only got a decent camera yesterday, but I did capture some moments on my cell’s camera. Here is a brief history of this grow.

I planted 6 Caramella seeds purchased at Homegrown Fantaseeds on 25 Feb 2006. I used 1/3 perlite and 2/3 peat. I didn’t use any lighting, only the good old sun. Nutes used were Biobuzz (Bio-Grow, Fish-Mix and Bio-Bloom). The babies grew quickly; I was truly amazed by the speed of growth. My only worry in the beginning stages was the heat of the midday sun.

Then the first problem reared its ugly head. The mellas’ leaves started turning snow white. I tested the PH, felt certain there was no nutrient shortage or oversupply and I couldn’t see any pests.

After much worry I decided to switch to mineral water, just in case there is something wrong with the tap water. And hey presto, the plants returned back to normal! This made me change our water policy in the house. Now the dog, our kettle water, water for pasta etc., it’s all mineral now. I want to get a water filter, but I first want to test our water to identify the problem. I’m not sure if it’s only chlorine or something more hazardous like mercury that filters cannot filter. There are many some industries that may be polluting the water supply and the regulations in Moz are not really very strict or strictly enforced. :1help:

OK, things then went well for a long while. I force flowered the mellas by placing them in a darkened room for 13 hours a day. 3 Turned out to be female. I kept one male for pollinating a wild sativa plant I found growing in my back yard. I harvested his spores and I’m waiting for the sativa to be ready for pollinating. She (the wild sativa) is not yet ready. :chin:

Continued...

Caramella grow - continued

Caramella grow - continued

...Continued

Then came the attack. I was out of town and my girlfriend cared for the mellas. It must have been right after the first stages of flowering started when something thought they would make nice dinner, lunch and breakfast. When I returned home they didn’t look good. I tried neem oil, chili and garlic. It all seemed to work, but not completely. I lost one mella and the other never totally recovered. :fsu:

So today I harvested after 50 days flowering. I think I should have waited another week or even two in an ideal situation. But the nights are a bit chilly and the pests relentless.

Now its time for drying and then the cure, so I hope to smoke my first blunt after returning from A-dam in 4 weeks odd :joint: . My next grow will start shortly thereafter. I hope to have my grow cupboard ready by then. I’m not very practically inclined and have been battling to set-up the lights and build the thing from scratch. I thought I would challenge myself.

I should try using the sun again when its summer. Haven't had a sun grow in a long time. getafix, your girls turned out pretty well considering the bug attack. I'd grow outside more often if I didnt have the plants growing to over 1.5 metres and the spider mite attacks every now and then

HOTC, the seeds were Caramella from Homegrown Fantaseeds. The strain grows very easily and smells sweet.

Looks good! Pity about the bugs. I reckon Chilli and Garlic oil would be like a marinade for the bugs in your area. Just add a bit of dry white wine. :D

Hi HotC,
I figured I will update with the links
when I update my Avatar & all the other info.
When I get a round tooit!

I am buzzy with New Airtight Stash tin designs at the Mo.
Here is the First Prototype.

Great for keeping a pack of smokes fresh & dry
& ideal for curing the herb.

Happy stashing.....

Damn I've had visits from telkom and eskom in the past 2 weeks. It's really not cool when you have to hide a tub with 50 litres of water in it. Eskom came to change my light bulbs and telkom was here because they somehow screwed up my isdn line and had to come fix it. I better not be getting anymore unexpected visits from anyone when I start growing my hashberry.

My hashberry seeds are in the post :), cant wait!

First smoke report

First smoke report

I just smoked the first of my Caramella harvest. :smoweed: Very sweet and works like a charm. I used a vaporizer, it keeps the sweet flavour intact.

Now for a few weeks cure... While I smoke up Amsterdam!

I'm Jealous! Congratulations.
I'm picking up some DP on friday. It has been a while since I've had any. Gonna burn my new RooR in with it. :D

yay, I got my Mandala Hashberry seeds 2day and a free pack of Sam The Skunkman's South African Durban Poison X Skunk #1, thanx Gypsy Nirvana

Got 5 Hashberry seeds germinating in soil and 2 Durban Poison seeds germinating in cotton wool.

I'm not going hydro this time cause I dont want to chance losing these plants to bad pH or sumthing stupid. So I'll just go with what's always worked for me.
