Weird smell along with lots of leaf changing.

So we had a ph problem which jumped up to 7.9. I changed the 70 gallon res and ran clear ex with a 5 min flood and 10 min drain every 6 hours for 24 hours to clean the plants out. Then I changed the res and put in the grow,hygrozyme and hydro guard and set the ph to 5.5 and it raised to 5.7 after 2 days now.

We have alot of under growth that is dead, alot of the plants have almost been killed before I got them a month ago lack of care by previous owner...

So I have been doing my best to get them back to health but we have an almost rotten egg smell from the mother and one other plant. Have some nice white roots out of the bottom but they stink..

Any clues would be great!

sounds like you have bad bacteria growing.
unfortunately u need to either A) empty your res. or B)put a new res in temporaily.

what you need to do with that new res is put straight RO water or bubbled clean 2 day old tap water in to the res and mix it with ALOT of h2o2, hydrogrogen peroxide. probably 1 bottle per 5 gallons. if you can flush your plants without a res id sugest that, but if the res smells like the rotten eggs also you need to toss it.

it might be a bit hot in the res, 68 or less is optimal, might also need more/bigger airstones. if you even have some.

so flush with h2o2 and water, for 2-3 days. then flush with regular water...again.

then fill your res back up with new clean water, let it bubble overnight with the airstone, then start your pumps again. if the water keeps smelling after that you'll need to flush with h2o2 and water again.

you can kick this, its hard but can be done.
clip off the dead leafs, they just give a place for bad stuff to grow.
if the leaf is 60% or more damage cut it off.

sorry if i was confusing.

your plants can recover they look torn up but there not too bad, the yellowing leafs is either a mag/cal def or nute burn. im not too sure. they should recover after the flush.

Thanks for your reply. The res does not smell only my large mother does. Its really weird. I need some more air stone I think, right now I have 4 2 inch round stones. Might need to step it up with my other air pump and more stones the water barely bubbles.

They are turning around now that I think that the mites are almost non existent.. and the ph is correct 5.7. Just have to do a little clean up and get rid of the leaves.

thats even better. just flush the mother..
its quite possible that the medium is where the stench is coming from.

do you see green/black agea?
what about a pink/white/grey/black fuzz?

RW is a good medium dont get me wrong.
maybe just flush that one plant with h2o2 and water.

i didnt get to see your res size...how many gallons?

temps seam good.
i dont get it the hygrozyme and hydroguard should block that shit.

by the pics it looks like its the algea.
get some whoite plastic and cover the tops of thoes cubes.
also you should get slabs or bigger cubes to transplant thoes girls into.

It is a 70 gallon res and I need to get a few bigger cube my babies are starting to get top heavy.

The mother has some black/ green algea on it.. Was like that when I got it been nursing them all back to health so I can cut clones and flower these suckers out! Start fresh!

So should I just flush that mom with h2o2? I am going to cut up some panda wrap and put it on the cubes and from now on.

I want to try hydrotron next I think. Everyone says its really messy and screw up pumps though. I have a while to figure it out.

OK everything is better now, except I am noticing some green mold and darg green almost black mold on top of some of the cubes. I just changed the water again today, set the ph and ppm to 880. So we will see how it goes from here on out.

What is a good ppm for small veg plants maybe 1 month old. 450-800?
