Weed with Antidepressants?

Nobody knows exactly how antidepressants work. Sure, they increase serotonin. But they do that within an hour of using them. Problem is, it takes weeks for it to have an "effect". They probably do 5000 different things in the body...

For some people, antidepressants might just actually modify/change bodily function. Like blood sugar, etc. And these corresponding physical changes result in a changed mental state.

So, in some ways, antidepressants don't exactly make someone happy for no reason... they just make you feel better, so happiness comes easier.

I have been on different anti-depressants. I found that Paxil worked well. I could smoke the purest sativas and not have any paranoia or anything. To me, paxil reminds me of the sort of feeling I get from tobacco... and also from Panax Ginseng. They all sort of calm me down and give me more energy at the same time. My thoery is they all rebalance my blood sugar.

I think it will be along time before we really know exactly what causes all types of depression. Some of it is caused by things in your life that you need to change. But some of it is also caused by physical issues, which is one way pills can help. But to me, the idea of taking pills is not new. Humanity has been using plants since we have existed. Even animals do. Its just now, we have engineered our own "plants" so to speak, in the form of pills.

Any effect cannabis has on seratonin is miniscule in comparison to the change from SSRI antidepressants.

Also, I know that was just one person's experience.

SSRI's do not produce seratonin. they are a reuptake inhibitor meaning they block the uptake of seratonin so it is not broken down. its not a miracle drug if your body is deficient in producing seratonin it will not make you produce more, but block the break down of seratonin allowing more to be in your brain. I smoked while being on prozac and the only side effects ive found and from other research i did was that cannabis makes anti-depressants less effective. I would agree that anti-depressants do change your brain chemistry and are extremely over prescribed. I work in a pharmacy and intend on becoming a pharmacist and no matter how long you are on anti-depressants its always recommeneded to not stop taking them cold turkey. It can be more dangerous the longer you've taken them you should always decrease your dose and ease yourself off them with or without the consent of a doctor. Stopping anti-depressants cold turkey can not only cause damage to your mental state but also your physical being too since your body builds up a tolerance to the drugs.
