Good point thesloppy. Depends what you're looking for.

can you legally buy herb from stores in vancouver? like in co, or, wa?

Yes and no. It's a joke to walk into a dispensary, have a quick Skype call and walk out within a half hour, ready to get red eyed. Vending machines in a few places.

Not sure how it works for travellers.

Definitely a no compared to Wa/Co.

Vansterdam is nice, but herb is still illegal here. Go where the weed comes without a potential criminal record.

:yeahthats
being legal for residents and NOT for tourists ?
i LOVE vancouver and victoria island.... but i had to KNOW SOMEONE to get good (any) herb there, without that i probably would have been desperate and out of luck

Hehe no worries.

I did quickly google it (I doubt I could name 1/10 of the islands) and apparently it's common to be refered to as Victoria island.

News to me ;)

If you go to Portland they have the quality and its legal. Also Vancouver Washington is 5 minutes away and you could try both. I love Portland and don't miss that huge bookstore mmm can't remember the name of it but it's a don't miss. Peace sdd

just for easily-accessible, flat-out great things to do/nightlife,
van bc is hard to beat. all a bus ride from d/t-
https://www.capbridge.com
https://www.grousemountain.com
http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park.aspx
and more.
granville island, granville street and yaletown have big nightlife,
and are fairly close to each other.
great for catching sports events- excellent venues.
north american footie, aka Major League Soccer, will be underway then.
http://www.mlssoccer.com
prolly my favorite n.american city, and a major travel stop-over
for commonwealth'rs.

portland's more compact, with a lot of smaller-scale,
but still fun/cool things to do. we've also got MLS,
even winning the '15 cup.
the ticket here will be quite a few easily walked-to downtown
dispensaries that sell to recreational customers;
until rec stores get phased in later- it's still new here.
7 gram purchase limit, total, per day, per rec customer.
https://www.leafly.com
...usually has up-to-date menus.
here is a zoomable map of ~ 300 oregon dispensaries selling rec
http://projects.oregonlive.com/maps/marijuana/dispensaries

you'll need to rent a car to get to the spectacular scenery here,
but a lot of it is within a few hours drive. e.g., columbia river gorge
(with excellent hiking trails/waterfalls) is only 1/2 hr drive away.
http://traveloregon.com/cities-regions/columbia-river-gorge/

and vancouver, washington is just over the river, with its rec scene.

btw, portland is 282mi/454km away from the hostilities going on
now in the much different, remote part of central oregon.

i think a seattle-local would best represent what's going on there.

cheers

EDIT: you can drive from portland to van, bc in about six hours,
but you'd need to avoid the peak times of both: the Can-US border
and seattle commuter traffic (about midway between van-port).
amtrak takes a couple hours longer, but you can enjoy the view,
and is pretty cheap if you book far enough in advance.

Travel lodging in Seattle can get up to twice the cost of a similar room/place in Portland, for whatever that's worth.

Hey all thanks very much for all the detailed info. I've decided to go Portland and booked my flights :)

Whilst I'd love to see what's going on in Colorado it sounds like the scene there is pretty messed up at the moment quality wise. Anyway looking forward to checking out the real west coast! Def going get a car and have an explore.

Do they have smoking venues in Portland btw, where you can chill or can you smoke outside bars etc?

Love the distances in the US. 282m is almost the entire length of ENGLAND!!

Not generally, though I think there are a couple specialty places in town that allow smoking. I think it was mentioned before, but leafly.com is a great resource for Portland dispensaries/shops, with daily-updated menus and price lists, searchable by location/strain/etc. with reviews, maps.

Hope you enjoy your time here! My advice would be to get a hotel/airbnb as close to the city center/river as you can. You can probably find cheaper lodging on the outskirts, but you'll likely pay twice the difference in transportation. Close-in, on either the East or West side of the river (and N/S of Burnside), will allow you to walk to plenty of interesting places, pretty much regardless of where you end up.:tiphat:

regarding dispensary prices: on jan. 1st, oregon began a 25% tax on rec purchases.
some menus build this tax into their pricing, some don't.
examples-
terpene station does not (so add an additional 25% to the prices you see)
https://www.leafly.com/dispensary-info/brooklyn-holding-company/menu

blue sky portland does

more portland resources:

local paper (weather, etc.)

two reads for happening events

thrill list coverage (hit the "load more" towards the bottom)

excellent happy hour scene here

both motel 6 and travelodge have relatively decent prices for downtown

http://www.travelodge.com/?tel=8005...=p&network=g&gclid=CIez-K3E7coCFQsDaQodzR4Ndw

the motel 6 on powell is located next to one of our best brewpubs

google earth has a 3D city view of portland,
and is good for getting to know the lay of the (surrounding) land

just ask if you have any more questions, and we'll git you squeered away, mon.

I think Vancouver/BC is the most beautiful place I've ever seen but you still got to buy weed on the street there which is a real hit or miss thing. Denver is fucking spectacular as well and they have dispensaries there. The dispensaries are hit or miss but at least someone isn't going to try to sell you green newspaper on East Hastings. If you're choosing purely on weed, go to Colorado. If you're looking for a vacation spot, Vancouver can't be beat. Especially with the exchange rate right now.

Fly into Seattle, hit a dispensary on the way up I-5 and then run it across the border. :D Best of both worlds.

The Canadian border so doesn't care anymore, it's hilarious compared to when I was a kid in the 9/11 era when they tried to bust a friend of mine for drug smuggling because of a forgotten roach in the ash tray lol.

for me legality is a MUST, i aint gonna go on a weed vacation to a place i don't know anyone and have to buy herb off the street. once i was in hawaii on 4.20 and COULD NOT to save my life buy some herb, everyone thought i was selling :(

altho i think a good point was made based on quality.
if you are going for the purpose of legality you want GOOD quality legal herb, hence portland over denver.

@lowfalutin, @thesloppy & others..
