Hello, thats not brown - thats red/purple on those leaves-definately an N def.

Not much to do about it now as they are near finishing.

I have the same problem now as well. I relied on the FFOF to last longer then it did-that is, I expected more from it. I find it a good soil-but watch out it does go flat on "N" before you are ready for it.

Yeh, you're right about the purple - I was looking at the first pic in this thread, which was more brown, just some purpling

Hello all,

Buahahahaha, its all good.

You know, for about a half a sec, I thought that I had a purpling strain as these are Mazar i Sherif (sp) clones. But from what little research I did on them, I did not find a purpling characteristic.

Besides, the calyx (again spelling-stoned) are not purple-it is the leaves and the bud leaves also that are purple which indicates a "N" deficiency.

On a different note- I have seen purpling in Nirvana strains (afghani). It was not during the colder part of the year so I do not think the temp caused the purpling.

So I wonder if purpling can be enhanced by external stimilus. Perhaps it was a fert regime? OR the soil?

WHo knows?

The best way to achieve maximum taste is by exhausting the stored nutrient levels in the leaf tissues by starving or "flushing" the plant before it is harvested, a good way to exhaust a plant is not to overfeed it to begin with and keep feedings on the reserved side

This is quite true, if organicly fed with proper nutrient uptake and a good slow dry and cure, flushing of the soil is not even needed. But best to do it in most cases if not sure...

I was actually in my loacl hydroponics store yesterday asking about sweet from botinicare, he told me that alot of organic framers would put dr pepper in there water toward the end of growth because the carbs and molassas/sugars that was in it would sweeten the fruits.

I'd say purple in flowering is from lack of P.

Hello all,

Yeah but look at the orginal post- you will see that the red/purpling is int he leaves not the flowers. And that it is starting at the tip and moving to the base of the leaves. Also note the yellowing preceding the red/purpling.

It can be confusing.

This fits the discription of N def in Stitch's guide. And is what I had with my girls in early flower.

Yes sir! I had bad Nitrogen Def.. for sure.. i did not feed enough..

in my 4 years of growing here.. i have done just the other side of what a noob does.. i dont give ENOUGH FOOD... OMG.. And im bad at it.. this time around i will be better. and im giving teas just about every watering...

Do you think Def in Nutrients can cause a foul taste in your herb? I am so unimpressed with my last batch i hate it! cant even smoke it taste like hay.. with a bad after taste..

I think liquid karma might have added to this bad taste.. as i used it in flowering

Edit that is not my current girls.. that was from my last grow BTW... i currently am in vegging going to flowering VERY VERY SOON...

Yes your right that curing is so important. I would love a step by step guide. I normaly hang them upside down. Till crispy.. no snapy steam. then put them in a bag where i open it twice a day for 2o minutes.. Freezer bag.. dont seem to work well maybe.

When its crispy on the outside of the nug its still moist on the inside, after its crispy wait another 2 days. Best way, as was said, is to crack the stem. Not just breakable, it should *crack*. Could you be putting them into your bag too early, resulting in a little bit of mildew? Actually that shouldnt happen if you are opening them every day, but you say your opening it twice a day. Is that because its not quite dry yet and remoistening? Wait till they are completely dry before starting the cure or the mildew could cause the bad taste.

Dont use freezer bags for curing imo, go to mcfrugals and get a box of quart or pint airtight mason jars. They are cheap and reusable.

question... do you think it would be worth to top them again? wait 2 weeks and start flowering creating bigger flowers? But i need bud now.. or just take some clones and flip the switch?

Do you think my containers are to small? the 2 gallons?

ok well here is what im doing..

So far ive been feeding them Indonisia bat guano high in Nitrogen for vegging as a tea.

1 tea spoon per gallon of water, also folair feeding with liquid kelp. Now i just switched to flowering 3 days ago. And just took clones yesterday.

Now i feed them 2nd day into flowering 1/4 cup of High Phos Bat guano Per gallon of water as directed on the box. I let it sit for a few days. And fed them all about quarter to half a gallon each. 1 to 2 litters each.

Now i got a batch of high nitrogen and im gonna give it to them next watering, along with a folair feeding of something high in P and K.

then im not sure what im going to do..

i just mix all the stuff in the water and water them. no stocking nothing.. so i think that the soil is going to be plenty rich with guano,

The pot size is fine for the plant size, and no dont top them again you would have to veg them for too long after. Just be vegging the next wave if you want to go bigger next rotation. If you do go with bigger plants next time, you would probably want to go with bigger pots though.

Careful not to over nute now, its better to slowly add nutes. Getting the right balance of nutes is more important then giving them alot of nutes. Give it what it needs and nothing more, that could have been your taste problem from before. When your done flushing and ready to harvest the leaves should be yellow not green. Nitrogen is the hardest to flush so make shure to try and not give it much if any during the last half of flowering, and to flush it for at least 10 days to be shure you dont have taste problems this time.

well ive always went yellow way to soon. SO this is why im so worried about nitrogen this time around. I feel with a good flush as long as my leaves are green i will do just fine. And i think if i can keep my leaves green till the end. There will be no difference exept in higher yield. ANd maybe better bud. ALl the great bud shots you ever see. Still have green leaves on them! Im still messing around to get the best herb. Thanks for the advice! I usually feed maybe once a week so i think im doing good.

Talking about this taste thing..... im wondering about what kind of kelp you are feeding them ? there are some types that promote "new growth"....prolly not for use in flowering? just curious as somethings such as nigrozyme and superthrive are really only for veg and should not be used for flowering...ive also heard this about a cerain kind of kelp... just a hunch but it might have something to do with the flavors your experiencing. Not sure if im on the right track here but it was a definite feeling I got when reading your thread.

Ya i use stuff i got from a local store. I use to use nitrozime but not anymore. Although i will start again because its great for Vegging like you mention and as for a folair feeding. Now i have yet to feed them liquid kelp yet, but instead i will use kelp meal, and only once or twice for flowering! Great observation and we are all learning lots here!
