Weed scene in Brazil - Rio

Could someone please give me the low down on the weed scene in Rio (and surrounding areas/cities). Any personal experiences?

+1,000 on the girls, that brings back some memories.

10-15 years ago, when I lived in Brazil, Rio was a pretty dangerous city for foreigners. Be careful. In my experience, the smaller towns had the friendliest people. Best if you speak a bit of Portuguese or Spanish, though...

I was weed-free in those days, so I don't have any tips on the maconha.

Once spent a week or so in Canoa Quebrada, on the North coast of Brazil (http://www.canoa-quebrada.es/english/). Hands down the most laid-back friendliest place on the planet I've been fortunate enough to visit. Smelled plenty of cannabis smoke in that little town...

Thanks guys....well yes, the women are the main reason I'd like to go to Brazil, lol, but being high and getting down to business is always good

The girls aren't too shady here in Italy where I'm at, but I think they're even more beautiful and a lot more open-minded in Brazil, lol!

I do speak a little Portuguese and am not afraid of danger, but thanks for the heads up

British, I've been in Rio many times for the same reason, Garotas. It's not all that dangerous if you don't tempt fate. I have all kinds of info on Rio. PM me if you care to carry that discussion further.

As for MJ, it is around. I had a cab driver offer and one show it to me- didn't like the look of it. But it's not like you should ask every cab driver about it because I have a feeling most don't do it as in the sense of some other foreign countries where you get everything from cab drivers as part of their underground commerce engine. However, if I were going back today while it's Summer there I know the beaches are crowded. So in Rio they mark the beach sectors by Posto numbers- towers that have a number(1,2,3 etc). So go over to Ipanema beach and find Posto 9 and 10. They're about 100 yards apart. Lots of young people hang out there having a good time, excellent scenery. Walk around through the crowd and you'll smell it. I would have no problem kindly approaching these groups and making friends to see if I could buy some. Might make friends with locals. That approach in my opinion is a lot safer than buying from anyone on the street or anything like that. If the agency you rent apts from are cool you might mention it to them but be a little careful with that. The people on the beach smoke rather openly, police never around. But outside of that scene I don't see it or smell it much. So be careful smoking.
