hip-hop/RAP doesn't have to be "music" genius.

the genius is in the lyrics of a couple great artists and a cpl. great albums (pauls boutique) bein' one of a few great albums. (I don't like beastie boys before or beyond that album)

a quik leesson for those that dont know ...RAP is an acronym which doesn't stand for music:

R-rythem
A-and
P-poetry

If u wanna know what the "streets" are talkin' about you listen to rap or you create it if your there....the phonies in the rap game are easy to pik out and ignore, I'll never listen to radio rap.

..plus there are some extremely talented producers in the rap game (Dr. Dre....need I say more)

I love Rap and Reggae only..I don't like much rock music, and not much for country (but non-mainstream bluegrass kiks ass).

not gettin into a piss-fest here, but rap and hip-hop have a place

try to listen to the pharcyde and not like 'em

I also see a distinction between Hip Hop and rap, though it seems like the former has much less of a presence than it did in years past. I would consider groups like A Tribe Called Quest, US3, Jurassic5, The Roots, Arrested Development, and even the Fugees to be "Hip Hop".

Then you have what I think is good rap- Eminem, Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre, Snoop's Doggystyle, NWA, Public Enemy, 7L & Esoteric, The Streets, Bone-Thugs, Nas, Biggie, Pac, and Jay Z.

This other (C)rap... I don't get it... Chingy, Birdman, Rubberbandman, TI, 50, L'il Anybody, and I don't even know any more names, but there are plenty of them. What gives with this nonsense? Talking about life on the streets, I get. Rapping about what you know, be it dealing, stuff like that I get. Even if they are BSing, they still "might have" done that stuff.

Are a bunch of white record execs just giving a bunch of dudes from the hood some 'bling', 'crunk juice' 'hoes' and 'mad whips' and letting them live the life for a bit, before they sit them down and say, "uh, ok guys, now go ahead and rap about how fly this is!"? I doubt it. So what the hell are all these idiots talking about?!?!

But it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. They ain't never even seen real juice, just juice drink, and now they are rapping about South of France and Cris, and Maybachs. They couldn't point France out on a map, and don't have a passport, and have been taking public transport and drinking Haffenreffer. But they fake it, and sure enough the record sells, and whammy! Diamond teeth for the whole entourage! Meh, I dunno, maybe it's just me....

Stay Safe,

I didn't mean all hip hop/rap I was talking about what you see on mainstream T.V shows and youtube front pages.

I just see music as an art myself I believe it has a very strong connection within yourself. I believe these artists run by corporations are just like the media, Not giving you a real message they don't understand a thing about music they don't do any good to anyone.

There is Hip-Hop and Rap that has talent, Personally I'm not into any of it but I can respect some of it. I think people only enjoy some music because it's "Cool" Honestly how did humans become like this I am ****ing AMAZED. Even without technology you can make some fantastic tribal music.

MC- deals with real life and rhymes with depth and true emotion. (murs, godfather don, kool kieth, mf-doom, wu-tang, mos def.. that kind of shit).

Rapper- songs consist of "rhymes" about loose women, cars, and jewelry to casio keyboard beats. typically include several lame hooks such as "A-BAYBAY", "I'm a nigga wit money", and "I get money". made for dancing to at shitty clubs.

Modern day Rap/Hip-hop is truely bad (*cough* 50 cent *cough*), but hey, you can't spell 'modern day crap' without 'modern day rap'.
We need to bring back Biggie and 'Pac.
Dre's producing is amazing, but he is a poser. Back in N.W.A he says something along the lines of 'I don't smoke weed 'cause it's gonna give a brother brain damage', but then he brings out an album called The Chronic. Dre aparently doesn't smoke weed either, and that he named that album after a 'high-quality type' of marijuana.
Dre don't smoke weed? I think you need to do a bit more research my friend. A lot of people say that they don't do alot of stuff, but get someone alone, you get to see what that person is really like

A lot of people don't like rap because everything is so modernized. The beats are composed on a machine and its played out for the rapper to rap to. They aren't getting up with an instrument or a voice of worth at most times. They've found out how to capatalize with the least amount of talent, welcome to America!

seriously though, if you guys want something original, check out the Beastie Boys album Paul's Boutique.

Try listening to The Roots.

First day off probation, no wastin' time
Just like ancient times, and take a dime and roll it
Blaze it with no fear
After havin' to take piss tests for a whole year

But now we back in Amster-D, got some grams for me
Chocolate Thai, Purple Haze
And blocks of hash that make the J's last for days
Rollin' 'em so fat, circumference stuffed with major chronic
We can put a wager on it

Rappers and weed, always a good topic, lets take dr. dre the chronic for example before i new anything about growing chronic meant good weed, not a strain sold by serious seeds, and thats what a majority of people you hear talk about kush means. were i live theres no kush but local artist always talk about smoking it, but there just referring to good weed. then you have a artist like jadakiss whos been rapping about deisel since they were gettin rape buy diddy.

What i dont understand is how everybody wants to take like its the gospel, its entertainment nothin more.

If a artist is not partnerd as a independent label the people in charge are who dictates what the artist puts out. thats why you see so many artist come out with so many mix cds. Check them out.

Well, Gwen Stefani is not Hip Hop, but in the song Luxurious, she colaborated with Slim Thug.
Here's a few lines from the song:

Cha-ching cha-ching we're loaded and we're not gonna blow it
cha-ching cha-ching we're hooked up with the love cause we grow it
cha-ching cha-ching we got hydroponic love and we're smokin'
cha-ching cha-ching we burn it you and I, we are so lit

Because too many people are so simple minded these days. Can't even think for themselves.

The same reason the Uptown girl is attracted to the bad boys.

They life a boring, safe, non confrontational life and seek something more dangerous and edgy.

In a nutshell.

Even though the 'ghetto safari' is 90% of the time prepackaged, sanitised, and created by upper crust old white men.

Hip Hop is at an all time low.
