Weed Mentioned In Hip Hop Songs...

For those of you who listen to modern day hip hop,

Have you noticed that...like the only strain that they ever talk about is purple kush these days?...what's with that? Is that the only name that rhymes with shit or is that like the designated hip hop star smoke?

I just noticed that today...thought I'd see if anyone else noticed that.

because everything is about kushes right now, it used to be about the white strains (widow, russian) mainstream hip-hop is about selling records, PK is easily identifiable to anyone with any knowledge of weed as "that good shit" or "fire" or whatever. Im sure some smoke PK and others smoke other stuff and say they burn PK, and im sure there are those who dont smoke and say they blaze PK. but it all comes down to recognition, its not the strain but weed in general that they want you to recognize.

Have you also noticed that there are songs where the artist talks about how he "never touches dope" but then later in the song that say something like "blow the kush in their face"?

I'm using "It's goin' down" by Young Joc as an example

Why does the Hip Hop culture have to be about hookers and hoes too? I like it when artists would just straight up talk about what would be goin on when they were blown off their ass or when they talk about their childhood or just like politics or something that wasn't exactly the same thing as every other artist was talking about over and over again...

Here's a good example
"Cool Witchu F/ D'Mite" by Mello-D & the Rados

Download it if you're into this genre, this is a sweet song.

That's why if it's weed rap we're talking, it's Cypress Hill we're listentening to. These fellas DO NOT discriminate- be it strain or method of ingestion.

"I can remember when I could only get sess in those days
Now I'm rockin that chocolate thai, skunk and the haze
Roll a fat one, pass it to the left don't front
But I hate it when they don't take the seeds out the blunt"

If cannabis were legal every rapper would be twice as rich because each would be marketing their own strain in their lyrics.

Because Modern Hip Hop artists can't think up anything lyrically, All I hear is Nigga nigga I've got money and watching girls being treated like pieces of dog meat on the videos. No respect for the art of music at all.

^Underground hiphop is at a highpoint right now. You aren't listening to the right music.

I hear mcs call out strain names all the time. Cannibal ox has mentioned sage, tame one has mentioned sour diesel a few times that I remember. I remember a breeze brewin and vast aire song that mentioned elvis:
"not only the best on earth, we the best on mars,
we invest in church and splurge the rest on cars"

A lot of people don't like rap because everything is so modernized. The beats are composed on a machine and its played out for the rapper to rap to. They aren't getting up with an instrument or a voice of worth at most times. They've found out how to capatalize with the least amount of talent, welcome to America!

seriously though, if you guys want something original, check out the Beastie Boys album Paul's Boutique.

Hip hop is like any other genre of music, most of the popular stuff is garbage. Also you gotta understand that it's different from other genres in that more emphasis is put on the lyrics instead of the actual music. The beat is pretty much just backround music.

I don't listen to anything in particular, one day Ill be listening to the dead, another day it's some jazz, but nothing is as interesting as hiphop, to me anyway.
