Hi,

I make a tank with 20 liter RO water and mixing Coco A&B, cal mag, pk and PH down. After 2 day's the water smells rotten and looks Cloud why?

Stagnant water, especially RO water with reduced dissolved oxygen, provides a fantastic environment for anaerobic bacteria to grow. Even more so if the water is actually a fertilizer solution. If you want to keep a tank like that around probably some kind of pump with an air stone would be a good idea.

Aquarium pumps go by liters of tank they can be used for. That way they provide a lot of oxygen to the fish and plants, so you can probably go for even a smaller one than the liters of your reservoir. Any stone would do but look for one with bigger surface if possible. A pet shop will for sure help you find a good pump and stone. Or just go online and figure it out yourself. Don't forget to get tube for the connection too. And always fix your pump above level from your water tank, so leaks can never happen.

Does your tank get light? I used the same solution for a while without such problems

I have never used only RO water before but i do have nute reservoirs seeing mild light through the plastic and they still ok after a week. Even with no air. So unless Ro water changes something, it's weird to get that in 2 days. Did u clean the res very well before use?

good, I used the same pump, up to 110L tanks sometimes and it was ok! It can probably do at least 2 tanks like that..

Yes with ISO Propanol

Will see it later how it works with airpump

Stagnant water will always smell bad after a while. Anerobic bacteria which produces
nasty odors need that low oxygen environment. That's the kind of bacteria that reduces
sulfates like magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) into hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg gas). So
keep the water moving with air bubbles to slow down the production of the nasties.

Hi how long you let the pump running? 24 Hours ore less?

I either leave it on all the time or use a cycle timer to make it stay on for 10-20% of the time every 5-10 min. They take less than 10W so not a problem to leave it on all the time. Probably 2 dollars a month in electricity at most.

Pepole told me on a diffrent board the Airpump is not optimal because of pH changing is that true

Depends on the CO2 level. In areas with high CO2 air pumps can create carbonic acids that can mess with ph over time. This is not a major factor though as these changes are extremely slow and plant uptake will effect Ph much more than the carbonic acid. Air stones also won't create any more carbonic acid than a water pump in the reservoir or waterfall effect from nutrients returning to sump.
