Just stumbled onto this

http://www.amesresearch.com/wall_coatings.htm

"Ames' Block & Wall is an elastomeric waterproofing sealant for exterior, above-grade walls. Block & Wall dries to form a waterproof seal to keep water and moisture out. This product expands and contracts up to 700%, is highly resistant to cracking and peeling, and remains flexible at -35°F. Block & Wall is ideal for block walls, basement walls, stucco and many other surfaces. It is heavy duty, yet easily applied by brush, roller or sprayer. Block & Wall was developed for cold and wet weather, and it is formulated to resist fungus, mold and mildew. This product is potable water compliant. Block & Wall cleans up easily with water."

Checkout the cardboard boat video. This stuff is tough.

Some Ace Hardware and some Lowes stores carry an elastomere(ic) paint. The containers claim they are 97% reflective! I'm pretty sure they're talking about heat more than light as it's intended to be used on rooftops and on walls exposed to intense sunlight and weather, but it sounds good anyway. It would seem that this would replace caulking, which would save time.

I looked into it and it's reasonably priced.

I decided to go with tried and true caulking and paint suitable for bathrooms that was brilliant white (titanium dioxide included).

I've only read of one other person actually using this stuff for a grow in forums elsewhere besides the reference in the original OG faq on reflective surfaces. They claimed they were very happy with it and that they'd never go back to paint. That was just one person mind you.

I also read that the stuff is fairly difficult to get a nice uniform surface with so you may have to be prepared to sand it -- in which case you'll want a mask to not have to breathe the dust. Also if you plan on painting it, apparently you have to sand it and prime it.

Those are just two things that I read in my research on the stuff.

D'oh! I hadn't even gone there mentally. I was actually investigating the possibility of making my own airpump diaphragms. When I stumbled on this, I was thinking of the custom res I've been threatening to build (hence the highlighting on potability.) I just didn't want to get into fiberglass coatings and this seemed easy to use while being extraordinarily strong.

Still, yours is great info to have. Especially if some consider it for cab reflection.
