Water from window ac?

Remember, when you cool air, water condenses out of it as cooler air can't hold as much moisture. THAT is why they call them air CONDITIONERS, the dehumidifying effect.

If your ac ISN'T draining water somewhere, either your RH is VERY low or your ac isn't working efficiently (or your drain is plugged).

heres a ?

Window units are supposed to be sealed, meaning they cool the room air, and keep that air in the room. This also means they should keep smell in and CO2 in the room right?

Then how is it we are cooling the air and pulling moisture out on the OUTSIDE of the unit? According to Cap, the reason for the water is the colder air cant hold the water basically. Well how does that water from the air thats INSIDE the room, get OUTSIDE?

Damn so I just found the drain plug in the rear of the unit. I unplugged it, and it's completely dry. Stuck my finger in there, no sign of moisture. Obviously (as others have mentioned here as well) it's supposed to be tilted back. I think it's about level right now, but if anything tilted slightly forward. I'm not sure where the water's been going. I haven't seen any leaks. Then again I didn't pay that close of an attention and it'd be difficult to notice on my pebbled surface fiberglass resin panels.

Unfortunately my dumbass made the hole for the A/C very snug, so it's almost impossible to tilt it back without taking the unit out and making modifications to the hole, which is the last thing I want to do.

I can hear water splashing around in the unit, especially when I remove power it sounds like some swirling water is coming to rest ?!?!

It's cooling just fine, though. Just really a bothersome feeling though, that I likely have a major inevitable problem coming up if I don't take care of it.

My understanding is that there is a channel (and thus technically an air leak, albeit a tiny, indirect one) where water can run to the back side for drainage as I don't anticipate many "normal" people would want to have to catch condensation into a drain bucket on the inside.

That makes sense.

As far as adjusting your A/C: Crowbar on the framing

Did payday also make your head explode?

I guess cause the money was coming in steady, there was no payday moment, I had my boy the sack seller throwing me some money nearly every day. Good fucking kid that guy, Still a great great friend. My setup was unique, memories man...

But that sticker shock hit me every time the bill came, That's a ton of cash.

sorry if I got all rambling again

My 24k from lowes installed at a tilt seemed to leak from all over the back of the unit. I had to foil tape up many small holes to control the dripping into 2 buckets I had below.

Even with the dripping controlled it still would spit and spatter water from the side vents. Luckily concrete floor and drain were right there.

I dunno - maybe I didnt have it at enough angle or just high humidity.

Sorry folks, I forgot room size a/c units often have a slinger ring or other device to spray/sling the condensate onto the hot coils to more efficiently cool them. This means your water has evaporated to the outside---or to the room you are venting it into-if you have it inside. Such as growroom cooled/heat vented into the other space your growroom is in. Which isn't ideal unless you insulate/seal yer growroom so it isn't sucking that moist hot air back into it.

So that sound of water you are hearing is ok AS LONG AS your ac is working like it always has. If it is the older style, look for and clean that drain hole, lol.

It only takes a few degrees of tilt to make water run out, nothing drastic. I'd pull the manual that came with it and see what it says about setup and drainage.
It's not supposed to leak like an SR-71 on the runway though, sumpinz goin on. I wouldn't let it leak all over, if ya can't fix it see about a return before it gets worse. Also check the filter and coils if you can see them to be sure they are clean. Possibility exists that the coils are nasty and the water cant be tossed back on them and that is why it's leaking at the seams.

Holler if ya can't figure it out, gimme the make n model and I'll look for a diagram of it and see if I can figure it out.

So check this out.

When I had that rubber grommet plugged, it stayed totally dry by the time I got to it; but I could definitely hear water running in the unit as if there were puddles / pools. I'm wondering if the fan running 24/7 evaporated it all by the time I got to it; it's very possible. Either way, removing the rubber plug results in an air stream being shot out, along with drops of water. I could definitely see it filling up something in the range of a 5-gallon bucket in 24 hours. Only on a few hours now and drained a few quarts, I'm guessing.

Edit: in hindsight, I remember this: when I first got the A/C, the fan motor and everything ran fairly quietly. Then lately I've been hearing a lot of extra noises, as if there were some old dry leaves stuck inside or something that was constantly rattling against the fan blades. As soon as I cut power to the unit, I'd hear water splashing / settling down as if it were swirling or otherwise moving around. Now I'm thinking all that rattling sound was the sound of the fan blades splashing around in a puddle of water! It's now quiet, after draining that few quarts or so... Makes sense, right?

yepper, makes sense. I'd still look at cleaning it, especially if it hasn't been cleaned in a yr or two. Spray the coils with Simple green or Formula 409 or other simple cleanser, and let it set and soak. Spray it again and let soak(3 or 4 minutes each time) then use plain water and spray it again to rinse it. Watch for debris clogging that hole.

Same thing with your HVAC in home folks! Clean the heat exchanger in the house every year or so to prevent problems and keep it efficient! Lots of dust gets past those cheap blue filters!

What not to do in this situation ,panic like i did .I knew I needed to install case 1/2 a bubble outa level towards the back (didnt bother with level I'm a carpenter form setter what would i need a level for)what a dumbass i can be at times
So day 2 of co2 heaven I hear water slinging on fan blades I panic throw level on case it is tilted 1/2 bubble wrong way ...Panic setts in further glass outa hoods venting disassembled ,I grabbed a drill and was gonna drill hole in bottom of case and drain it

Woulda been fine had I been thinkin straight I woulda used my unibit instead of the 1/8 inch bit i drilled through the case and into the condenser releasing 14.7 ounces of r-22 into my garage

I had planned on keeping this little mishap to myself but it seemed prudent to this thread
Moral dont panic unless you like replacing brand new A/C units ( it was 2 days old when i did this )and reading the instructions only helps if you follow them

Since we are sharing our bright moments

I was defrosting a small fridge in our office. The small ones when you open the door, the freezer is up top? Well against good advice I wanted to hurry and used a screwdriver to chip out all the ice in the freezer and punctured a line releasing the gas/liquid.

Dont feel bad, we all have those moments.

Badugi, mine makes the same noise too, water splashing around
