I sure liked what Strainhunter said about the data being altered to be used as evidence against innocent people. WILL happen.

don't be surprised if it doesn't happen.

i believe some courts have already ruled against digital photography because of its ease of manipulation.

Well that's an eye opener I didn't even realize my damn iPhone was doing that. Although I noticed in the "photo" app that it had a tab called places and then i clicked it and all my pics show up on a map and the locations are not always spot on with accuracy but too damn close for comfort.

In the settings tab in iPhones there's the "location services" tab where you can select if your photo app is included in location services. Does un checking this stop it from putting "places" data in your pics or does it still embed exif in the pics.

i just tried it and yes, go into location services, under general in settings. turn the camera off.

no further pics will contain gps coordinates in the exif data.

i turned location services off for photos too, but the one remaining photo i had is still showing up...

best to turn it off at the camera level :tiphat:

You can tell your iPhone not to encode the GPS data on the pic. Go to Settings, then Location Services, and tell it that Camera is not to be allowed to access Location Services. Better yet, reset Location Services, and then the next time Camera or any other app asks if it can use Location Services, tell it 'no'.

Bada bing, no more GPS data where you don't want it.

I've been following this post and find it quite entertaining, some great info, some good advice, and..well..
Anyone uploading pics to this site should be removing all exif data from their pics.

Marlo I am adding info to all my pix for my personal website, keywords, domain names, etc. But I am hoping and thinking I am legal, being a chronic pain suffer with a doctors cert in a legal state..but who knows.

I yearn for the good old days of Kodak 35 mm film. When processed the results were there to see...the bad points...the good points...it made people into photographers with an undertanding of light, balance and subject.
Not this digital photoshop shit....

Wow HC..as a 35 someone that's been a photographer for 35+ years, schooled in film, I used film until I couldn't afford it anymore, almost until processing was no longer available. But I have been able to share and display my art now with thousands more around the world just because of digital. Most seem quite happy with the images. I strive to capture the most unique images possible with a digital camera, using natural lighting as much as possible. I think the day has come where digital is surpassing film, though I miss watching those prints just appear on paper in the darkroom. All I do in Photoshop to my images, except for a slight sharpening, mimics what I tried to do in the dark room with chemicals. As Ansel adams said "There are always two people in every picture. The photographer and the viewer"

I believe Gypsy posted that the EXIF data was stripped from pics uploaded to IC... if someone from IC could confirm or deny this it would be great.

Maj I can't confirm or deny..but I have downloaded several pix from this site today just to look at the data..there is nothing, all fields are blank.

go look in my profile. see any weed pics? nope. the best way to keep pics from getting you in trouble is by not having any. I keep no records of my grows. .....

HZ I understand why you do it, I can't imagine having to do that. I'm saddened to read such things..but many of our members live in countries where you are quite correct. I have over 10 thousand cannabis pix on my hard drives as well as years of grow journal word documents. I have thousands of images on this site and others. But again I stress..I believe I am legal?

win7 has an exif data removing option...stay safe!

gbb..Photoshop has a "save for web" option that also removes all this data. Your quite right, stay safe is the best option for someone who is concerned.

...Secondly, it has come to a point where disabling and protecting personal data makes YOU the target of suspicion and investigation. EVERY keystroke you ever made, every conversation you have by cell, has been recorded to be used when technology is developed to exploit it. But by hiding data you are becoming a minority and suspicious. So maybe it would be better to go ahead and post and talk, just give out misleading false information but still totally hide the realities.
I sure liked what Strainhunter said about the data being altered to be used as evidence against innocent people. WILL happen.
Call me paranoid, tin foil dude. Whatever. That only helps the assholes. Whose nuts here?
ddsaver..you're paranoid Bro!

I hope my images, and all of those that are shared by others here, continue to be appreciated and enjoyed despite the fears of discovery and prosecution. I can't imagine my life without sharing them with you or ICMag being the website it is without images..keep uploading them guys.. Cheers...DD

Hummingbird..the Hybrid. Photoshop used re-zised for web, auto color and contrast, and sharpened 60%.
