Visits During the Dark Cycle

Just started a new gro and thanx to all the experienced folks out there for all the great information available at this site.

Simple setup in the attic. Box is 2x2x4 (lwh) with seven bag beans under ten 23 watt flours. They just popped the jiffy cubes and were moved to beer cups with perilite and organic potting mix. Fresh air comes from an ac vent that is one of two that feeds the living room and has always been closed anyway cause with two open it turns the room into a meat locker! I cut the duct and plugged the a/c feed and ran the room feed end into the box. The draw fan will pull the air from the ceiling of the living room through the box. During the summer I will reverse the ducts and feed the box with the a/c out. Dat be the plan anyway.

My question: If you have to visit the gro during the dark hours can you use a red bulb like a photo dark room light without interupting the dark cycle?

It is damn tough getting to the spot in the attic cause I got to haul my fat ass up a ladder and through a ceiling hatch! It is my only opportunity though with prying eyes everywhere in this house.

Thanks

green lights don't wake up the plant. Just make sure its has a good thick green on it, not some flaky crap.

a safe spot is the best spot.

Get a green LED.... its real green light and not just white light shining through a green bulb.

Dont do it... I dont care what people say. I did some research, asked some questions. I bought a green light... used it for "emergency" purposes only... went in maybe 4 or 5 times during a two month grow and still threw a mess of nanners. Light is light as far as im concerned, and as far as i can tell, the plants feel the same way. Never been back in the room since. Also haven't thrown a nanner since, well except for a few late phase ones, only cause i let them flower too long. Just get your area arranged and worked out. Organize and sort things so you know you'll never have to be in there for that solid 12 hrs a day.

Green is the one of the least absorbed frequencies that plants encounter, it simply reflects off and is not absorbed thats why plants look green! I'm intersted to see how you hooked up 10 CFLs though, I use 6 with suplamental side lighting.

Also you may want to change your spot to a more acessable one, or at least one you can visit any time of day so that you dont need to go during the dark cycle somtimes.

Cadillachydro if you developed nanners I doubt seriously it was from a green light,I have them on MY AC and my dehumdifier on opposite sides of an 8 by 8 room and they've never affected my plants that way.Its not the light bro,its the genetics.

Jimbo's garden will be a lot happier and healthier if he avoids "crusin thru the garden" when the lights are off.

Let me come in and interupt jimbo's sleepy time and see how cranky he gets. Just cause they are plants, doesn't mean they don't know.

I suspect he may not believe us

i dunno ballast man, ive been running the same blueberry for almost a year... I believe that was the only difference, besides pruning technique... i also had a dewalt drill charger in there that i kept always kept a spare battery on.. It has a very small red LED that glows when a battery is stored on it. It was on the floor and emitted so little light you couldn't see your big toe if you tried. I doubt that was the prob, but I still removed it.

So... its been two harvests since, "I'm somewhat perpetual" and i haven't had shit, except about 6 to 7 preforming pods, and that was on a particular 45day strain i let go about 51 days. Experimentation my dear Watson.

Long story short, i believe once you eliminate ALL light issues, no matter how small in size or period of time, it becomes impossible even consider it an issue. Keep it easy ~caddy

Yea but I just cant eliminate my dehumdifier, during the night hours is when its most important.Same for the window AC I just cant turn it off at night I wouldnt have sufficient temp control.I also have the pilot burning from the cd-6.Like you I have had a blockhead strain for about 3 years and its never been effected one bit, maybe I should knock on wood but I'm pretty positive its been proven a green/blue spectrum cant even be seen by the plants so I dont know how it could affect themEDIT I do know from experience a red diode will cause a plant to herm, damn I almost forgot its been so long. The dehumid I still use has a red diode for low/high fan that I didnt use to cover with elec tape,I paid the price with a flo herm too.But I havent had a problem since with the pilot light or green diodes

All depends on the strain that you are growing. I hear of some sativas that will hermie if not kept in very specific conditions, but I grow indicas, and light leeks just arent a consideration. You can go in there with spot lights if you want to, no nanners.

hey bro i did 15 cfls in a grow cab 3ftx3ftx3ft i just bought 15 of the cheap plastic light sockets and screwed em to plywood then ran a continuous loop of wire form the 1st to the 15th by drilling 1 1/4" holes behind each socket for the wires to connect then a loop to a switch no need for a plug its only for veg and is on 24hrs day

Good luck keeping your grow a secret from your housemates... time to get your own place.

I share my place with a couple dozen ladies.

Peaceful, quiet (So obviously not human females) and.......... priceless

without green lights i could simply not grow. I have never had a problem with them and find to be an absolute necessity for me. I've spent 5+ hours straight in the "green room" on numerous occasions and use them just about everyday.

Hey man, more power to ya...

Maybe i bought a cheap green bulb.

Maybe this blueberry strain is more susceptible to light induced herms.

It seems it can be done, but no more for me... I'm getting it dialed so I'm not stress'n... Good luck to you guys.
