Heat mats may not be necessary, but definitely is not the reason for the issue described here. Lets focus on that...

Every time this issue pops up, nobody is able to really confirm what it is. It does not have usual virus symptoms, just bits of leafs missing. Every thread will eventually fade with no resolution. I really wonder..
