Theres truth in the saying you can never go home. Even if you find the exact replica of the weed you smoked 20 years ago your brains own pharmacopeia has changed enough to where the experience is surely going to be different.

true that verite but the taste doesnt change  ie: kona gold, WATCH THE FUCK OUT you get buzzed just smelling it :) has that noxious liquor aroma that tingles the sinuses

i also grew some oaxacan (highland?) and it (after a 9mth cure) got me truly buzzed and trippin (like drunk and a mild cubensis dose combined, a weird feeling, much paranoia)

i smoked haze yesterday that gave me that swollen head feeling, i actually had to stop at the bottom of the staircase because as i looked up after a bong session i got the helium head, these highs are out there, you guys are just not growing the right thing LOL btw the oaxacan was grown in the north east and was taken under 60 days, the high would have been much better if it was grown out to maturity, or close to it (it BLEW with no cure, taste was horrible as well, rancid actually, i may never grow it again)

on second thought i had been up for 24hrs+ so it was most definitely a combination of things that gave me that "helium head" too much sativa and no sleep :chin: its good stuff tho, elvis/church gave me slight visuals and audible hallucinations

Nothing wrong with trying to make an old strain better imho.
IM sure all the derivetives of the common commercial HYBRID strains werent all that great back in the days of Tai and Panamanian either. Might be why they all became hybrids.
Somebody just forgot to include some of those strains you cant find anymore.

Ima gonna pipe up again, my first smokes in the year 1971 were in upstate NY. seedy lumbo and mex weeds. I remember long lastin highs, with much laughter.

I have been on a sally binge the past year seems now. and have smoked mauie wowie, panama red and OHaze. as with just about any line/strain of MJ ya have to grow out a number of plants to find the best. open pollinated landrace lines will require many more plants then a worked hybrid to find the best in a population.

the reason there are no Old Skool strains commerciallly(lately there are many as interest has risen) is due to the indica arrivin on the scene. short stocky, resin filled plants that had a new thump to the high. and they FINISHED FAST!!!!!!! the fast finishin plants took over grows, as you could produce double if not triple the normal sativa grow indoors, faster turn around and heavy buds, ruled commercially.

another point is the govt's of the world. the asian strains, particulary Thai weed, are nothin like they were, due to the eradication of growers and there crops. mex, brazilian, columbian, probably all the South American countries due to the US's bogus war on drugs.

But!!!!!there are many old timers that have seed from the 70's, thats a fact! peeps on the scene find old containers they had put away and forgot about all the time. if you think that the oldtimers from NCal to BC somehow lost there seed stock, or flushed um for the new wave of hybrids, your sadly mistaken.

it kills me when growers say shit like those strains are long gone, theres no such thing as purple haze and shit like that. any one collect seeds? do any of ya have a frozen seed bank of your own? I think there were freezers and such in the 60s and 70s. i have a frozen bank, 30+ lines, and a collection in the crisper with 80 to 100 different hybrids, landrace, IBLs and such. id imagine it will be somethin to behold in another 20years when im finished. and since i take great care of the frozen beans, id think germination will be close to what they would do today.

have to remember, that alot of the seed of the 70s were stored in film cannisters in a top dresser drawer.

smokin sativas is a aquired smoke. as ya dont get the thump/umpf of a indica. its more along the lines of a smooth easy smoke, the high builds over time. sorta sneaks up. not creeper, as your gettin higher all the time, the sativa bud brings you to a peak with a nice easy ride, its just seems unnoticable with the first tokes. it gets you gradually higher over time. thats why you can over do it, your smokin and wtf nuttins happenin, so ya puff it like a fool, and 30 mins later you are a fool, LOL

my experience is the high is motivational, visual, and happy. the high can be very intense from a ripper.

the 1 PR plant I had did make me a bit queasy at times, little tightness in the chest, and even some slight sweat around the brow and neck. one very important point is a 100% sativa plant requires a good cure, no if ands or buts about it, 60 days in the jar really jacks up the head, cause right off the hang, I was pretty dissappointed, but down the road, really picked up in all the primary attributes, in the smoke.

the OHaze, for sure takes it to the eyes, seen wierd shit in pictures, traces and blurred vision. and chinese eyed like a mofo, red as they get. like when I was a kid.

both lines were some long lastin weed, 4 hrs or better. main reason for lookin these over is to find the mind bender, ive heard plenty on plants from sativa lines that will get the heart racin, cave the chest, bring on nausea, expanded visuals, make it hard to breathe. considered a "Ripper" here.

this next round of sativas, has been tough to decide on, today made it a bit easier, as a batch of sallies arrived to look at. a private lemon Thai line, taipan, chinese IBL, and a new one on me......BeerBud?

I started DFs lemon Thai and a dalat X C99, last week, there up and reachin. figured id try the dalat X, before goin for the straight dalat(22/24wks from seed) the gear that arrived today ill start each aweek apart. so im pretty much tied up till uuuuhhhhh(countin fingers)march or sumtin like that, lol.

have to figure out how to jam in BGs Thai, and castromans cohiba:D

sorry for all the ramblins

heres a shot of a Colombiano G. shes from seed, a private line. only was able to germ this one plant from 4 seeds tried. have more to try. she would never flip under 12/12, and to big for my spot, so we stuck her outside, she flipped when the sun was around 11/13, mid sept here. shes indoors finishin up under 11/13 along with a haze that had the same needs:D

Most of the weed I got in the 70's had the "mind-expanding" effect. Get buzzed and close your eyes. Does your head literally feel like it's growing or expanding? I don't get that effect from most strains today.

We actually used to say "Let's get our heads tight" when redering to getting stonbed, so I know exxactly what you mean. It was different, and in some ways a just plain better high. More fun perhaps?
I've had a bit of a relapse with my illness so I have noit been doing much the last few days, but I'm back with the living and looking at these messages again.

I really can't wait to suck on a freshly rolled joint of pure Thai Stick again. Mmm...

 Just thought I'd buy into this thread - I have tended to agree with CBF on the topic of old school potency applied to our aging psych, what was a great trip back then may tend to seem tame after our experiences. :chin:

That said, today's offerings seem just as potent but lacking focus on senses we remember about the high experience when our bodies we still developing and desperately trying to fight all the shit we threw at them. :yoinks:

I thought I was the only stoner to stash shit in canisters & weird hiding places! If only I could have remembered those damn hiding places! :bat:

I did have a lot of stuff from 3 tours in Nam stashed into my seabag when I hit San Fransicso. I wish I had the Saigon Gold seeds, not that they would be that impressive grown inside and in a different environment, but shit - toss the old man a bone and let me follow the old school bean fantasy! :canabis:

Come to think of it I also had some huge seeds from Cambodia. :badday:

Sorry for the rambling. :pointlaug

The saga continues as I say goodbye to an old sailor friend and inherit part of his stored bean cache. Much love and peace, bro - you will be missed.
