Hi all,

I have moved this thread here because I started it within the context of someone else's post. In other words I unintentionally "hijacked" someone's post. So I have moved it here where it will hopefully pick up steam and get rolling again very soon. Sorry about that Sinfuldreams!

Re-posting my contribution to the project....

Reading this read made me realize I had seeds stashed in plastic 35mm film cannisters from around '78-'80.. They've been keep in a box in a house and not subjected to any extremes like from an attic or garage. The cannisters haven't been opened since they were originally sealed as far as I know.

I am quite certian that each cannister contains seeds from the same bag purchase. They are also from herb that would have been exceptional for some reason. This could potentially provide some interesting genetics to your projects.

Also, three of them are marked and I can remember two of the bags of herb they came from quite well.

The first is Gummy Weed I picked up in the Bahamas. The guy told me it was shipped in from Jamaica. It was dark brown and was really sticky. When I copped the bag I slipped off to an undeveloped part of Paradise Island in Nassau and rolled a doob. I had been puffing for a few minutes when I realized I was COOKED. Then a second later I noticed a lizard on a branch of the foliage I had taken refuge in. Then I started seeing ALOT of lizards. Freaked me out bigtime! When I got back to the States and shared some with my buds they all got baked too. Was best damn brown weed I ever smoked.

The second cannister I can recall is the one labeld GOLD!. This weed was VERY yellow in color and came in long buds. The taste was really smooth and gave a really mellow buzz.

The other labeled cannister is listed as 3bhw for 3 Bong Hit Weed.

There is a photo labeled Columbian Gold. That's EXACTLY what the weed looked like of the seeds in the cannister marked "GOLD!". I peeked in the cannister and there's at least 50 seeds. They are small seeds, but most look nice dark and plump.

good idea that is presently bein done by quite a few seed makers in spain. they have some very good old time sativas.

the stuff from days gone by is still around and easy to get. you guys are in for a big let down if your thinkin theres somethin magical in them beans. best to grow um and see for yourself, always good to keep lines fresh in seed form.

I wish you were right about the old strains being readily available. It took m months to locate someone who had a few Panama Red beans, and my search for Purple Oaxacan hasn't turned up a single lead. So I must disagree with your statement about the old strains being "easy to get.
And the Spaniards may well be experimenting with old Staiva strains, but I doubt their the same genetics that flooded America in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I hope I'm wrong on that score since the more people that are trying to revive the old school beans the better.

NP dave, as it took me two years to aquire the PR i have. seems now with alot of time, friends and unnamed benefactors, aint much I dont have access to.

can only grow so many plants, and since I like workin with certain lines, and needin to keep goin with them, I have a limited space to try new or different lines.

Queijo over on OG, had a site up(down now)should be back up soon. ACE and crew, have the real deal gear. and they have seed availible commercially. Reef has a shit load of landrace as well.

Howdy I dont post here often but i took the invite from OG and now im kinda interested...
Im into trading seeds lately so the idea kinda caught my interest. Not sure how the mods are about trading beans here but theyre pretty anal about it @ OG and itll be a cold day in hell before i'll ever have to shell out a dime for a seed i figure.( and yes i know now that trades not allowed here ty )

BUT, that said ill tell y'all a little story about the best weed id ever smoked when i was a kid.
My Best friend(rip)'s older brother had a buddy from mexico an dhe started growing bud in the back yard one summer. WE(kelly and I had no idea what it was anyways or we probably woulda ripped some) went to visit one day to see if his brother had some bud, AND they had just cut them down and said sure, it was kinda moist and whatever but dry enough for a joint. Fernando told us it was something called OAXACAN RED, never heard of it since.
Ive seen different oaxaca whatever threads around but ive never been able to get my hands on any.
Everyone remembers that old 'columbian' seedy outdoor crap that was going around right?, but this stuff was totally different it had a taste , smell and a high like nothing i can remember til i started growing myself.... Maybe Fernando knew what the hell he was doing i guess, BUT this stuff knocked us on our 15 yr old asses. Crashing into stuff on our bikes all the way home giggling our heads off and lasted a good couple hours.
I Even remember reading something about Oaxacan something or other from one of juan carlos'(Casteneda and whatever other alias') books too and supposedly there was something 'mystical' about this particular strain of mexican weed. Like the 'weed of youth' or something like that.

Has anyone heard of this strain?... PURE tho not some hybrid cannabis cup offshoot.
I'd love to get my hands on it if anyone knows what im talking about.
For all i know its one in the same as say... Panama Red, just from a different region.
Anyone have a clue?
If i ever had any beans from back in the day theyre long gone, whoda thunk id be growing the way i am now. I didnt.
If anyone can point me in the right direction id really appreciate it... beans too of course.

Lizards are the only native creatures in the Bahamas and they are EVERYWHERE.. but they are small so you have to look really carefully.

Not sure I'd call it anal...but we enforce forum guidelines #7 stringently.

I’m not so sure that the weed from yesterday was any better than the buds of today. I would bet that they contain less that or at the most, equal amounts of thc than the plants in our gardens right now. Why are there no commercially available Colombian Red Bud or Gold strains today? Why no Black African, Maui Wowi or Thai Stick? Yes, this bud was great back then and life was grand and we had no worries. Bud was inexpensive, concerts cost $5 a head and no one wore condoms. Phones had dials and were attached to a wall. We ate on TV trays and had to get up to change the channel. All of these things are wonderful memories but there are better ways to do these things today. I’m sure you will find that getting up to change the channel a bit redundant, as is trying to bring back that good ole buzz from 1972.

Yes, the weed of yesteryear was nowhere near the THC content of today, but that is not the main reason for wanting to resurect old strains. By recovering and islolating these old landrace genetics, breeders will have another set of genes they can add to their aresenal.

Besides, not many people can say they smoked REAL Columbian Gold. In 20 years time there may be people trying to recover genetics from our current time that have been lost.

The point isn't so much that the weed then was better or stronger. The effects it gave were different. For example, I used to get "trails" in my vision if I moved my eyes quickly; I don't get that with today's strains. I also got some slight visual distortion where everything looked super-clear, super-focused. I've only had one bag of weed in the last 10 years have that effect on me. I've run into some powerful weed recently, but pure power isn't everything.

Most of the weed I got in the 70's had the "mind-expanding" effect. Get buzzed and close your eyes. Does your head literally feel like it's growing or expanding? I don't get that effect from most strains today.

I'm starting to explore some sativa varieties, even though I have limited grow space, because most of the weed available in the 70's was sativas from Central and South America.

Well thats a matter of opinion.
But I wasn't Smoking as much then as I do now, I'm growing for Peats sake!
I don't that HIGH anymore anyway. Unless I take a few days off. Then I get Blitzed.

About 3 days of no smoking and then smoke some Deep Chunk. It was as good as the OLD High. Those Sativas would make your head BUZZ Hense BUZZ. I don't get that today EVER.

I asked BillyGoat about the Old Thai Sticks, if they where Wild Strains or InBred, he said they where inbred. But I still havn't had that BUZZ from a Sativa yet. Indica seem just dandy today, as good if not better.

These where growen outdoors in thier Native Land, we put them in tanks of water and nutes based on Other Plants and Strains needs, but have No Clue what types of Soil they originally grew in. Some little Micro Organisim could be all the differnce. They had the real sun we have fake suns. They grew at Altitudes we don't have. So we may never have that same BUZZ ever again.

When I grow out the GodZuki I'll take 3 days off and give it a 1 hit test.
If it's any thing close to what I remember I'll be Very Happy.
