"If a man, after anointing his ligham with the mixture of the powders of the white thorn apple (Datura stramonium), the long pepper, the black pepper and honey, engages in sexual union with a woman, he makes her subject to his will"

- The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana - 400 BCE and 200 CE

The Burning of Jamestown by Howard Pyle, c. 1905

Jamestown Weed

The Rebellion of Bacon started in 1676 when early Virginia colony settlers led by Nathaniel Bacon ran Governor William Berkeley out of town and burned Jamestown to the ground.

While across the river awaiting reinforcements, the British troops lead by Governor Berkeley had one of the first documented "trips" in American history with datura stramonium aka Jamestown Weed...

“The James-Town Weed (which resembles the Thorny Apple of Peru, and I take to be the Plant so called) is supposed to be one of the greatest Coolers in the World. This being an early Plant, was gathered very young for a boiled Salad, by some of the Soldiers sent thither, to pacify the Troubles of Bacon; and some of them eat plentifully of it, the Effect of which was a very pleasant Comedy; for they turned natural Fools upon it for several Days:

one would blow up a feather in the air; another would dart straws at it with much fury; and another, stark naked, was sitting up in a corner like a monkey, grinning and making mows at them; a fourth would fondly kiss and paw his companions, and sneer in their faces with a countenance more antic than any in a Dutch droll.

In this frantic condition they were confined, lest they should, in their folly, destroy themselves - though it was observed that all their actions were full of innocence and good nature. Indeed they were not very cleanly; for they would have wallowed in their own excrements, if they had not been prevented. A thousand such simple tricks they played, and after 11 days returned themselves again, not remembering anything that had passed."

- Robert Beverly in The History and Present State of Virginia (1705)

Venus and Mars by Sandro Botticelli c.1483

An earlier account can be seen in one of arts coveted artists works, Sandro Botticelli's Venus and Mars circa 1483.

Thought to be a tribute to the "conquering and civilising power of love", a little plant at the bottom right held by a satyr might hold a 'higher' meaning...

The Satyr at the bottom right of the painting holds a plant that the horticulturalists at Kew Gardens have confirmed is datura stramonium aka Jamestown Weed...

Acorrding to David Bellingham who made the discovery of the plant in the masterpiece,

"The fruit is being offered to the viewer, so it is meant to be significant. Botticelli does use plants symbolically.

Datura is known in America as poor man's acid, and the symptoms of it seem to be there in the male figure. It makes you feel disinhibited and hot, so it makes you want to take your clothes off. It also makes you swoon."

Jimsonweed Juice

Sip the tea lightly,
turn your head away,
watch the shadows brightly
slip around the day.

The cheek you kissed this morrow,
though warm and soft and bright,
will have gone tomorrow,
as your mem'ry clears tonight.

The face your fingers chanced to find,
though it once set your mind to reel,
now holds no spot within your mind,
as no longer the madness you feel.

As right as before you'll soon be,
no thought of what's gone before,
you'll have no beautiful mem'ry of me,
lest you sip of my tea once more.

So what have we learned? Drugs have shaped our culture in more ways then we could ever imagine...

Then again the same 2000 plus year old book recommending to rub infused honey on your dick to "make her subject to his will", The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana, also recommends this time old classic...

"...or if he throws some of the powder of these same sprouts mixed with the excrement of a monkey upon a maiden, she will not be given in marriage to anybody else."

- The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana - 400 BCE and 200 CE

"Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment."

“There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.”

― Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends

"...when they used to tell me I would shorten my life ten years by smoking, they little knew the devotee they were wasting their puerile word upon -- they little knew how trivial and valueless I would regard a decade that had no smoking in it!"

"For me, when I started putting psychoactive material in the work the pot leaves and that sort of thing, I was really thinking about rearranging the use value of those objects instead of traveling through the blood stream to alter consciousness they travel through the eyeballs… You can use them over and over again instead of it being consumed dissolved and excreted… they can be inexhaustibly psycho active.”

"Few people know the predicament we are in, on a thousand accounts; fewer still will believe"

-George Washington - In a letter to Joseph Reed, during the siege of Boston (January 14, 1776)

139_masonic_pipe_no_scale.gif

A Masonic smoking pipe was discovered within the fill of the main cellar of the Washington family house at George Washington’s Ferry Farm, his boyhood home.

Operation Pipe Dreams

In 1762 George Washington sends a order to London, a common practice for supplies in the new world. What he was ordering was also common in the new world the amount wasn't. George Washington was ordering 3,000 clay smoking pipes...

"The invoice documents that Washington was charged £1.9.2 for 20 gross (2,880) of "Hunters" pipes and 4 shillings for one gross (144) of long pipes"

One can only assume these were not all intended for Washington's use himself if at all. A prominent man such as Washington (who became a mason in 1752) would most likely smoke a more intricately decorated pipe (like the Masonic pipe discovered at his home).

A second order of the same quantities was ordered again by Washington in 1773...

We can only assume these were ordered to sell and use as trade in the new world...

Something to ponder as a society...

In 2003 Tommy Chong was arrested for “conspiring to distribute drug paraphernalia”...

He sold a total of 3 bongs, 1 order to federal agents in Pittsburgh and in Texas where 2 undercover agents purchased 2 water pipes and a t-shirt with chong smoking on it...

For this grievous offense, the American Government decided it would be a good idea to charge his family as well, being a family business...

"Chong agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute drug paraphernalia in exchange for non-prosecution of his wife and his son."

Chong was sentenced to nine months in prison, a fine of $20,000, and the forfeiture of about $120,000 in assets. He also had to give up his internet domain name of tommychong.com. Not to mention having his family threatened, all for something George Washington did 241 years earlier on American soil...

One has to wonder what one of our greatest founding fathers would have done if his government came to his house and threatened Martha...

The United States’ independence “ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shews, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of the continent to the other.”

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this."

- Albert Einstein

Jerry in underwear alien costume with police

In 1958 following a UFO sighting, residents of Bad Axe, Michigan started seeing some strange things around town...

Reports of a "little blue man" that would appear then disappear by roadsides to passing cars. When the cars stopped to investigate, no sign's could be found...

As the days went by the stories grew with some having the little blue man "Glowing" or another with the claim it "ran faster than any human"...

Turns out it was a dude named Jerry with the help of his buddies in a homemade underwear costume...
