Well you know it is grown in the Colombian mountains. But it's a AAA tropical variety
IMG_20240413_070829018_MFNR~4.jpg
that came out better than expected. Here's the Samora that takes a back seat to anything. Rich creamy favors and bright uplifting hit. This one was grown here near the house in a container but is a rider favorite.

So the other day, I go to a cannabis event and I'm not a fan of such affairs due to the commercialization factor. But this was my neighbors event and for the first time since I've gone to these events I had some of my flowers. This was a "tasting" no competition or silly cup farce, just a group of local growers. It was my buddies first time hosting such an event and I was impressed with presentation. There was a chief (also one of the best growers) and a bar however I couldn't eat or drink due to an x-ray appointment the next day. Samples of flower and extracts made and labeled for a very casual evaluation. Most of the growers young but most grow outdoors and the quality was high. Lot's of nice hybrids and crazy potent fresh frozen live rosin. Really nice almost intimate feel to the day finishing with a kick ass bonfire 🔥. Despite not being able to I really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one.

It was nice to show these guys my humble sativa offerings. I felt genuine appreciation for the real old school sativa even though it wasn't nearly as strong as other samples. But overall I think the this was a great first event and the beginning of something fantastic.

Well this was a private party so the guest list was very selective. In fact a few of the participants you know. JC and the guy that had that crazy Ethiopian and the chef/ rapper. The samples were top shelf mostly hybrids but we had one killer RD (Red Death) sativa from greenieshouse. There was only one sample that didn't impress me and the grower told me it was weak. Same guy brought fresh frozen live rosin that was incredible,so he was rectified. Everyone seemed to like the Djamba but I didn't submit any Wiley (limited supply) or the Muisca. Everything was good especially the setting, wasn't crowded or uncomfortable, perfect for smoking and conversing. The good vibe along with a environment makes the cannabis experience so much better.
But I'm hoping for another taste off there and with a few adjustments could be the best event in Colombia.

Yes it was a great time, I'll see if I can post some pictures of the actual event.
IMG_20240415_125330398_MFNR.jpg

This is PHO (propane hash oil) and normally I don't use much solvent extracts. But this was made in a lab and purged perfectly. Made from hybrid flower that works well.
IMG_20240419_093548625_MFNR~4.jpg

This was grown in my greenhouse but the genetics come from the breeders at greenieshouse. Slugs almost ate this plant but it still managed to produce incredible flower. This cross is of interest to me as I pollenated it with the last Michoacán x Oaxaca.
IMG_20240419_095248332_MFNR.jpg

This is one of two very rare Red Snake bx that I'm hoping to reproduce this year. We made this cross in Bogota 2016 and only a few seeds survived.

And pairing with the finest mountain grown coffee in the world.

It's all smoke and mirrors but sometimes I get lucky 😁
We had months of very little rain (El niño) but nice steady rain since Friday. Everything is getting green again and water tanks are slowly refilling. Of course with the rains comes the humidity. When it's dry my plants in general dry in about 5 days now with the high RH can take up to two weeks. But the good news is we finally got some rain.
IMG_20240413_095239062_MFNR~2.jpg

This was my last and only plant of this rare cross. The mother a pink pistillate Michoacán, the father a spicy Oaxacan. There were very few seeds from this cross made over nine years ago (in Bogota) and only this male survived. I could have taken clones and tried to reverse it, but I didn't.
IMG_20240405_090138415_MFNR~3.jpg

So I saved pollen and outcrossed it. At the moment I pollenated a couple of my neighbors females I've got in my greenhouse. These are top shelf genetics from the owner/breeder of greenieshouse right next door to me. Durban x Red Death is one of the crosses I'm excited about pollenating.
IMG_20240419_095313112_MFNR~3.jpg

I like the Durban x RD although it's super strong but the taste and quality of the effect is epic.
IMG_20240323_084148665_MFNR~2.jpg

Everyone loves the Djamba so I'm going to start more later this year to finish around December. I like the Djamba but compared to what most people grow/smoke here it's moderate potantcy. However it's so unique and everyone is crazy for sativa even here.
The owners of the finca will be returning in July and I don't particularly want to live with them so I've got to be creative to keep the train rolling.

Some pictures from the event last week. That's the "Old cheese" grower, really nice guy who's also a chef.
IMG-20240421-WA0016.jpg

Some of the samples (I'm still smoking on them) of the flowers. There was also several concentrate samples.
IMG-20240421-WA0010.jpg

There were great prizes and gift packages but I just came for the bud. That guy in the picture made some really nice PHO and his flower was top shelf.
IMG-20240421-WA0015.jpg

Here we are receiving the samples, it was a little overwhelming cause so much going on. It was a great time talking with the growers and trying their best stuff. I couldn't eat that day but the gracious host had saved some for me the next day. Really looking forward to the next one and other events at greenieshouse.

Now on top of world class Colombian grown cannabis and and hashish, I have to mention the food. Of course I miss my biscuits and gravy but I do love the local food.
FB_IMG_1714665161414.jpg

Nothing like a big Colombian breakfast after a sativa sunrise session. The best start to a beautiful day.
FB_IMG_1714179623493.jpg

Had a little snow in my department last week as the rainy season hits the high elevations
FB_IMG_1714179122229.jpg

Colombia is amazing to me with some places eternal spring and others not far away always winter.
Lovely fungi too.

The origin of Muisca (Paipa sativa)

I was introduced to Muisca May of 2022 when my wife and mother in law gave me a huge freshly broken branch. It was premature but covered in sticky seedless flowers. It was a leafy branch but I was thrilled to get it. I immediately trimmed and dried it, the dry flower was good. The hit was kind of moderate but nice, clean and euphoric. I liked it and went to meet the grower. The plant was grown right in Paipa at a private garden two blocks from my house. The garden although unkept was excellent and the huge plant my branch came from was still growing in the corner of the garden.

I met the grower and also one of the owners of the property. Old guy told me this plant was grown by his family for generations. His great grandfather grew it on the family farm (close to Paipa). His father taught him how to keep males when they needed seed and how to cull the males for sinsemilla flower. The plant was used for tinctures and other therapeutic medicine but he also smoked it. The grower told me he only grew this variety and it has never been mixed with any other variety. I believe him and consider this inbred variety to be an acclimated Colombian sativa from Boyacá.

Growth characteristics:

Muisca is a long flowering tropical sativa and grows best in the ground protected by a greenhouse. Lights are not necessary for veg as they do not accelerate growth or prevent flower. Natural recorded life cycle is 3 to 4 months veg and 3 to 4 months full flower. No signs of intersexed plants.

Effect:

Muisca is an acclimated high altitude Colombian sativa and not to be compared with modern imported hybrids. Muisca is a step into the past before the massive hybridization of Colombian commercial cannabis 40 years ago.

The smell of cured Muisca flowers is sweet and floral although light. The taste is the same but more profound and delightfully pleasant. Rich and unique Muisca has an unforgettable nose and mouth. Although moderate in potency, a warm wash of euphoria is felt with the first hit before exhale. A clear uplifting high continues with smoking until a satisfying plateau is reached. Smoking more is not necessary but re-up is effective after an hour or so. Overall Muisca is a light to moderate classic Colombian effect that is refreshing and clean.

Hashish:

Muisca sativa makes super high quality dry sift hashish. First sieving produces oily sticky resin that melds easily in hand. Full melt dry sift of the highest quality.

I will say at the moment I'm very fortunate to have a little greenhouse and the freedom to grow what I want, when I want and how I want (to a certain degree). So I plant what strikes me at the time. I have no hard forecast for the year and I rarely count weeks. But at the moment in the ground I've got two very rare (to me) Red Snake bx that are important to me personally. I was there when the bx was made in Bogota and these are the last of the genetics I have or anyone else to the best of my knowledge.
I was barely able to germinate the few few seeds I had and only two mutant seedlings survived.
IMG_20240504_081839583_MFNR.jpg

RS #1 (male)
IMG_20240504_081907441_MFNR.jpg

RS #2
It appears of the two RS one is a male and the other female. So if all goes well I'll have fresh F2s to grow later this year and next year. I like the Red Snake for many reasons, it's a beautiful blending of two high quality classic sativa. I know the Punto Rojo, it know the region and climate of where it came from and I've grown it out in Bogota. I know the Oaxacan as I've grown it two and I know the Red Snake cross. I have not however grown the bx (Punto Rojo), so I'm really hoping to make some fresh seed. The Red Snake when flowered under the Colombian sun is an incredible example of classic tropical sativa. I don't know (or care) how it would grow in a container under a light bulb but I can only imagine it would much less. The soaring uplifting high with that classic old school lumbo taste is what Colombian mountain grown Red Snake delivers. And that's what we're here for.

Now as an old MF I like a really strong indica hybrid for peaceful sleep and pain relief. My neighbor had an interesting cross
White Rino x NYCD to try in the greenhouse.
IMG_20240504_081918448_MFNR.jpg
Indica does well here if you really take preventive measures with pathogens. Here at this finca it's great for indica because it's dry even during the wet season. The cloud forest of zipacon was a different story. I haven't tried them yet but I like the plants, nice fat leaves and good attitudes.
IMG_20240504_081927095_MFNR.jpg

White Rino x NYCD
I gremanated some of the new Muisca x Wiley (Hawaiian) because I think it's going to be a killer cross. I'm also going to grow more Djamba (Sierra Leone) and try to make F2 s. This variety is very popular here.
Good things coming

Here we are slap dab in the middle of the much needed rainy season. Nice steady light rain for the last couple weeks but still nice parts of the day.
Perfect time for a late morning coffee and some tasty curing Muisca.
IMG_20240505_093733260_MFNR~3.jpg

Smells and tastes have broadened into rich districtly Colombian flavor like the fresh roast coffee. It's turning into a great day.

Very nice morning, watch the sun come up. Smell of fresh coffee and bacon cooking,go on the roof and see the world wake up.
IMG_20240506_054902582_MFNR.jpg

That first taste of Muisca washed down with my favorite bean. Plan the day and reflection of the present realty.
IMG_20240506_054853432_MFNR.jpg

Mixing soil and prepping holes in the greenhouse are earmarked for today.
