I was expecting a nice sativa high anyway and decent potency but the strain smoked just like any other decent SE Asian imported bagseed. In fact they resembled a bit to the Philippines Sagada landrace I grew some years ago and she had a strong character too.
Too bad the Viet black didn't live up to your expectations, I was hoping you'd find something epic after the disappointment with the Sagadas. Did they still finish a lot faster? For me it was the lambsbread that never quite did it for me, but I only flowered a couple.
Hi Thule,
From my experience with tropical strains, I find that you usually need to grow out 20 ~ 40 females from a landrace strain to full maturity to find that extra special, strong, hard hitting, invigorating, long lasting and totally enjoyable and memorable sativa head fuck...and it's usually there..or among the next 40 femmes, lol
and ideally, when collecting landrace (bag) seed, try to take home seeds from various, not just one source of good ganja.
i have an original viet ibl , It was brought back from Vietnam in 72 , I noticed it has the double serrated leaves like yours , im working on some cross's with them at the moment.. very nice kiwi lemon smell , little sensitive indoors , does great out side strong warm head buzz ,

BTW, if your sagada came from vibes collective then it came from me. I donated the seeds to the collective along with many other sativas like Sri Lanka.
Huangdi said:This strain of Phillipines comes from a former member of Overgrow, named Chongkee, a phillipin. We both received seeds from the Kalinga and the Sagada. Dubi did the Kalinga and I made the Sagada. Unfortunately, the Sagada did not give pure males and therefore the seeds obtained are very strongly harrisas. I think we will drop the strain, especially since it had no great interest compared to a strain of South Asia is traditional, despite the fact that it was reputed to be the most traditional of the country.
Are there any pure Vietnamese cannabis seeds available? Without sounding flippant or disrespectful, I'm looking for the kind GI's would have smoked in the '60s.
Vietnam Black is not available from ACE Seeds, only Vietnam Black x Thai, and Orient Express (Vietnam Black x China Yunnan).
The Spice Brothers seem to be very hard to find a reputable seed seller for. They used to have Viet Combo Vietnamese x Vietnamese Black.
So my in my quest for the greatest landrace seeds of old, I would love to get a legit source for old time landrace Vietnamese cannabis seeds. Let alone ones with good growth characteristics.
Also, I imagine there is a difference between the Mekong Delta/Saigon area strains, and that the Highland seeds are going to be more like the Cambodian and Thai areas they border? Those seem to be plentiful (although not any specifically Vietnamese ones).
So I guess my questions would be:
1) Are there still good outlets for the Spice Brothers seeds?
2) Is Reeferman's Hoa Bac (Silver Leaf) - Vietnamese Mindfuck still available somewhere?
3) Is there anyone else who has landrace Vietnamese seeds?
The more of this strains I grow and test, the more clear I have that they are just strains like any other and many times, the hype and the legend behind them is much bigger than the strains themselves. Or maybe it's that I'm getting to picky with sativas! lol. But I don't really have the time or space to spend years working or improving a strain if the first time that I grow or smoke them, they don't really ring a bell or click something on me. It needs to be love at the first sight, you know?
Vibes.
For your viewing pleasure....Vietnamese Black.
