Ventilation and climate control help pls

Hi All,
I have been a reader of the site for years but never a poster.
I have been growing outdoors for over 20 years and organically but now I am planning on building a cabinet in a 3 meter x 3 meter [9.8f x 9.8f] garden shed.

I plan to insulate the cabinet to reduce noise, control temp also its fire proof. A reverse cycle portable air con unit for climate control,a scrubber to control the odor and 1800W LED Lighting system to reduce power consumption but also reduce heat.

Now i have read all about ventilation fan systems, exhaust fans saw the charts and I cant get my head around it, my brain literally ends up hurting, i have read the posts on the matter straight, stoned, first thing in the morning, late at night, indoors outdoors you name it I CANT COMPREHEND IT......lol

If anyone can help me out on how i should go about it, it would be so appreciated. this is my major stumbling block and has prevented me to start this build and I am so so so keen to use my lights and post a killer start to finish LED Grow dairy.

Thanks :tiphat:

PS I'll post some info and pic's of my lighting later on

Iam assuming you are placing the carbon filter in the cab? When I did a cab as a rookie, I used a hole saw to drill holes on the bottom of cab. Ran ducting from filter to vented lights and out the top of cab using a centrifugal fan rated a bit higher than my filter. This will allow for cold are to passively enter the cab, filter the smell and vent the light with one powerful fan. -Keepz

If anything is to exhaust from the shed, it should only be lamp cooling air using a closed system. Sealing and seriously insulating the shit out of the shed is the best way to utilize your AC.

Hopefully to simplify, get a filter that has a higher cfm rating than your fan, and have twice the sq. inches of passive intake as sq. inches of exhaust [pi r squared] Good luck. -granger

thanks for your time to help keepz, yea i was looking at using a setup something like this
filter/fan/silencer

+1 on play4keepz that extra air can keep u from using the ac on days that aren't hot outside. save that ele bill. is the shed wired with a big enough circuit?

Hey Granger, thanks for your reply.
sorry mate I dont understand what you mean when you said " it should only be lamp cooling air using a closed system "

what i think i understood was and correct me if i'm wrong

the filter to have a higher cmf rating than the exhaust fan itself and the air intake to be double air flow into the cab than the air exiting through the exhaust fan?

sorry if i seem thick, its jus doing my head in...

thanks

hey muah12, thanks for your input, yeah shed is good enough to handle all that power.
thanks

I am kinda confused on your suggestion here as well. I just reread and realized the OP doesnt use HID's and have yet to see LED's that one is able to vent. In the first sentence you write about using a closed system, but in your second sentence you write about passive intakes. All closed systems I have ran (in rooms not cabs) do not have any passive intake. I might build in an emergency exhaust system to expel high humidity and excess CO2 during dark cycle, but thats about it. All CO2 would have to be provided by the grower in closed systems via tanks, generators, etc.
The filter set up in the pic provided shows a filter to fan to silencer. Personally, I've never used a silencer but know from experience, its easier to drag air than to push it. So I always set my fan at the end of the ducting or exhaust. So I would install the fan as high as possible immediately before the exhaust to increase effeciency. They sell centrifugal fans that are stupid quiet when properly installed. -Keepz

I would say get a 6" Exhaust fan...

What exactly don't you understand? How to figure out how many CFM's you need or?

Diagram of seteup

Diagram of seteup

I am posting this diagram, as you can see i was thinking of using a 4 in 1 portable AC unit as air intake to the cab which in theory i could control the air intake/temp/humidity and the filter/fan /silencer to exhaust air out.

I am only guessing this is possible. i just need to know if this setup can work or there is more to it and if so i need to educate myself on the matter so im confident enough to start my build

errrrr that head ache startin....lol
Thanks guys

thanks for your time soursmoker,

i just posted what i was trying to do below your post and yes figuring out the whole CFM thing.

thanks

yes you could do that but you would be exhausting money right out the window...

most either do sealed with A/C & C02 OR Provide proper air exchange so temps stay in check and fresh air is always available...

I wouldn't run an A/C With an exhaust fan unless it was absolutely necessary... Or place the A/C on the outside of the grow area so it "conditions" the hot exhaust air and can be sucked back through again... you will most likely need a Dehuey for that though...

Where will the exhaust fan be exiting air at?

Any exhaust fan you use will suck out all your precious cooled are, which will cause you AC to work much harder, negating any electrical savings you hope to see from LEDS.
What's a reverse cycle portable AC anyway?
Take a good look at your diagram and understand that if you set things up that way your exhaust will suck out the cool air faster than the AC can cool it...

because the cab will be in a garden shed outside, temps in summer can reach up to 40 degrees celsius 104 farenheit with humidity up to anywhere in the high 90s and as low as 6 degrees celsius 43 farenheit in winter.

if i were to use only a fan for intake and the exhaust setup would this be enough to get my temps right.

i can provide the the air to come in from the outside of the shed and exhaust out of the shed aswell, by cutting into it

ok that makes sense , like i said i have no idea but hopefully i will have a beter understanding soon

thanks

If you are pulling in 100+ degree air, it will not work... you may need the A/C but you are probably better off trying to complete seal it up and try and find a cheap way to get the bare minimum levels of CO2 in there... Intake air has to be cooler than the temp you want your room to be at...

good luck bro, I don't know about growing in shed's outside... good luck.

Your first idea might work actually now that I think about it, but it sucks exhausting the A/C out... you could try setting up the fan on a thermostat so it only kicks on when it gets above a certain temp or RH%

Again, I have to agree with soursmoker. You may be better off completely sealing things and supplementing co2.
I'm in Florida and it's literally hot as hell down here so really the only way we can grow indoors is with a sealed, cooled and co2'd room.

hey thanks soursmoker for your input.
i'll have another ponder and try and look around on some grow diaries on the forum
