vent question

o.k. here is the deal I believe this would work but I am growing in a new spot for me and stealth is of the up most here and that is the problem. Do you think that if I where to hook up to ex take vents in my grow area and no intake that it would be all right for air flow, because my fans make a bit of noise and I am growing in a way that the whole 5x4 room is unable to be seen bit if I where to put a fan for intake then it would be noticeable and cause some problems. The two fans would be rated for 50 cfm each so that would be 100 cfm total ex take. would the void that is bing filled with rushing air be enough for the plants? I do have a rotating fan in there also. Well any feed back would be great thanks.

Use some common ****ing sense man if you only have an exhuast point and no hole for fresh air intake then the fan will suck all the air out of the room and then burn itself out.

You need an intake hole.Just get a good inline centrifugal fan and use passive intakes so that way you get a negative pressure environment.

I never said that fresh air would not be able to travel in, I just would not be able to put a fan in for intake for security reasons. I am not a complete dumb ass even if I do have my moments. The air that would travel in would be getting sucked in though a hole under neath a cabinet where no fan will fit. Fresh air will be traveling in but with no light leaks. As I stated I want my whole grow to be unnoticeable by anyone and everyone. I don't like to take chances. My fresh air would be getting sucked in though a hole in the bottom because of the air that is getting pulled out of the chamber by the fans. There would be equal pressure to my knowledge. I was only wondering if the air that was getting sucked in would be enough or should I try to rig up something that would pull in the air, just keep in mind that I have a very limited space to work with and stealth is of the up most importance. And please no flamming, I was only asking a simple question.

weaponmaster,in all honesty, your first post was/is a little vague. With your second post, you give more info. Let's see if I got it right. You are growing in a cabinet. You are drawing air from the underside. The underside is open to the room. If so, the way it works for me, is the opening for fresh air should be twice the size of your exhaust. 4 inches exhaust, 8 inches of fresh air. I believe that's right. It's been a bit since I set up mine. If I'm wrong, I'll correct myself and apologize.

you might also take youre lighting into perspective as well. are you using any kind of carbon scrubber? regardless it would just seem safe to go with something at least 150 cfms.

thanks for all your help guys, my temps are doing just fine. before I hooked up the fan my temps where 70 lights off and 82 lights on. So my temps will be fine all right. I am using a diy carbon scrubber to help with smell and everything, and well in a matter of speaking you where right and wrong at the same time old fool. What I have is I took off my closet door put a large cabinet in front of it and then removed the cabinet backing so I walk into my cabinet to get to my grow chamber. I make up a fake backing to my cabinet that is able to be removed yet you have to do it in a very specific way to do it. My question was only to know if that would be enough fresh air traveling in there. I will be starting a thread here soon with pics (like a week and a half) showing the cabinet and also the seeds I just planted this morning.

can i just ask 3 questions ? as i think outside the box maybe you should to ...

1)where is the growroom located which floor..in your flat/house and what is the floor material ?

2)where is the out take vent going? attic , window , wall cavity?and what size?

3)who's house/property is it? is it a closet? if not what is it?

Well I will answer the best I can can't say they will be the most well informed answers tho.

1) The building I live in is a duplex, I live on the top floor, the material of the flooring is made of what I think is maple, maybe oak wood. I covered the floor with a tarp tho.

2) The out-take is venting out just above my cabinet going up though a wooden chest and venting up near my ceiling, the cabinet was just a little too small to cover the whole door way so I made it so that things are sitting on top of it and one of the things have my ducting in it. I have never had any real noticeable smells with this fan in past grows. The ex-take is right next to a window that I have open most of the time and a fan blowing in air so the smell is dispersed fast enough to not really be noticed.

3) This is my landlords property, I only see him once a month when I drop off my rent. In my year and a half that I lived here he has never just randomly stopped by. It is a closet a total of about 3.5 feet wide, 5 feet length, and 8 feet high.

I would think if your temperatures are fine then a passive intake will be enough air flow for your girls. The exausted air will be replaced with new air, either it being a vent or just structural leakage. From what I have read I would think it should be fine.

oh ok so you cant cut any holes in any material ie the floor or ceiling ... 82's not bad anyway so there must be air coming in . just buy a new carbon filter and link it up to your grow fan if there's odour in the room .

sorry for the delay been busy

If any moisture gets under the "tarp" for any length of time you will have to explain to the landlord why the finish on his hardwood flooring is toast !
