I'm taking a trip to Tanzania next month and was curious what varieties/cultivars are to be found in the country?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi

I have read about a strain sold some years ago by African seeds called Tanzanian Magic.

African Seeds - Tanzanian Magic

Original seed stock from the highland tea growing region in southern tanzania, this short fast flowering sativa gives short stocky plants with sticky compact buds. Leaves pencil slim. Suited well to indoor growing under lights or behind glass, flowering starts in 4 weeks with large bud formation in 8-10weeks. Good for cooler outdoor climates. Very potent electric high.

Flowering Period: 8-10 weeks (condition dependent)
Height: 1-3 ft
Yields Outdoor: 3-4 oz
Yields Indoor: 1 oz

From people that grew it I know that actually is was a long flowering sativa monster :D

I've read an account of seeds from Morogoro, but I know nothing about their quality or features, only that they must be sativa.

One of the places where the famous "Black Magic African" could be from, it's said that is Tanzania. Is said too that those seeds are really huge.

If you find buds there, keep the seeds of the best. If you feel afraid to carry the seeds with you, you can send them to your home into a letter with protection to avoid crushing.

I hope you enjoy your wonderful travel.

Be careful. Good luck.

I have no doubt that I can return safely with seeds. Just wondering if they would be of any value to make hybrids with modern varieties?

Hi

Of course, they would be great to make hybrids. But the best from a pure sativa is that it's a pure sativa. The high is really unique, soaring, psychedelic, no tolerance and with no ceiling, the more you smoke the more stoned you get.

When you cross a pure sativa with an indica or a new fast strain, you can get a really good hybrid but you lose some interesting features.

If you are able, keep pure, non hybridized seeds too.

P.D.: Don't forget to bring back a Masai spear as souvenir :D I've got a friend that visited the Masai Mara with his parents (unluckily he is not a smoker) and when I saw him after the travel I asked him if he has a massai spear and he blamed me for not to say it before LoL

The long blade type is really amazing. http://www.sportingwoodcreations.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/raco001-5.jpg

Best regards.

Yeah ahortator, I'm def interested in keeping the resulting progeny pure in addition to making hybrids.

I'm just not sure how well they'll do indoors though...? How well do you think they'll perform outdoors in the southern US?

they will do great, the genes will be similar to s.american drug strains like Mex and Lumbo..

Africans are famous for being huge monsters. If you can avoid detection and you have no frost where you live you can grow them successfully.

You can grow them indoors but it is tricky. You can see Jahgreenlabel's posts in the landrace section. He is a skilled master growing pure sativas indoors with awesome results.

I'm going to bring back as much as I can get my hands on. Hopefully enough to share with my IC peeps anyway. ;)

Okay this a late post, but did you ever manage to get the seeds or was the high you got from the buds not what you were looking for so didn't take them?

I grew a few African Seeds - Tanzanian Magic back in 2002, very stretchy, grew long stems like you used GA3 on em, then started branching, so they looked like thet were lollipoped. Very thin 9 finger leaves. I also grew a few African Seeds - Durban Poison side by side and they were a lot more compact and well behaved.

Finally worked out how to upload a photo!

The three Tanzanian Magic are in the yellow pots on the right, the Durbans in the black pots on the left. Day 15 veg from seed under 175W MH.

You can see what I meant by stretch!
The shortest of the 3 at the back was the male, the two stretched ones were females.
