I got Burmese from VISC maybe 20 or 25 years ago. It looked like an indica, but had a soaring sativa high and no couch-lock. It didn't seem especially potent after a couple of hits, but if you smoked more, it started to pack a punch. High ceiling, I'd say. It also was super pungent with a fruity and body odor type of funkiness. It tasted so good that people couldn't stop taking more tokes despite my warnings of a slightly delayed reaction. Later, I'd look at them and they had one eye dialated more than the other and a silly grin.
One guy told me after he went home he was crawling on the floor and crying. I started laughing, thinking he was exaggerating to make a point. He looked me square in the eye and said "it wasn't funny". I expressed sympathy and desisted in my amusement. But when I remember back about that story, I still think it's funny. I tried to warn him.
I crossed that plant with genetics I had been working for decades. I out crossed one more time since with Bangi Haze, and I've now gone 4 generations of continuos line breeding. I'm still happy with the results, and I haven't found any other strain that I think would improve it... yet. I credit Burmese and Bangi Haze with stabilizing my keeper genetics. In summary, I highly recommend looking through those Burmese genetics. If you find a keeper, you'll be set.
I highly doubt the VISC Burmese was a cross with Afghani or any other indica that I know of. Because of the stability that I have experienced with my use of it, I believe it was heirloom genetics from Burma. ACE Seeds works with a Yunnan China plant that sounds similar. Yunnan China borders with Burma, now Myanmar. Tribal groups from Yunnan province migrated to Burma, as well as Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and N.E. India. It all ads up.
I'm got some of VISC's Burmese's progeny growing right now.
Good luck with it. If you find the good stuff, keep breeding the best of it, and don't mess around out crossing it too much. You won't want to lose it. We lost too many great strains because of our impuse to keep hybridizing everything.
