USB Microscope

Anyone have any experience with a USB microscope? Some of these things are 2mp cameras which can zoom to 800x, or so they say. I bet some seriously badass trich pics can be taken at this magnification.

:ying:

I recently got the Veho VMS-004

It seems like I can only get the damn thing to focus at like 20-30x, and around 400x, but nothing inbetween.

Around 20x of my coco top layer on a plant:

Supposedly close to 400x on a piece of coco:

around 20x of a nug:

supposedly close to 400x on a nug:

I'm on a mac, so I assume it makes using it a lot harder, because I'm only able to use it on photobooth. So whenever I snap a pic there's a 3 second countdown on photobooth before it actually takes the pic. So you have to make sure the scope is fully stabilized and not moving or it will blur. The scope comes with a stand which helps eliminate this problem, but I think using the scope without the stand would be impossible.

I found it weird that it seemed like I could only get the scope to focus at the very far end of both spectrums (close to 20x, and close to 400x) and nothing between.

I dunno, I'm sure there's a learning curve to how to use it correctly, but these are my preliminary observations.

My main purpose of the scope is to be able to correctly identify bugs. since I didn't find any on the first plant I scoped, it's hard to tell if it would be effective for that purpose or not. I might return it and buy a higher end scope.

Hope any of this helps man.

Another god damm(xcuseme) piece of junk we 'should' have in our kit to make our lives easier ..? lol lol by now over 40 years of growing you would think I would know when a plant is ready .....lol

It was like the 400 X type.

Hmmm.. Forget where I put it

It was fun to play with

Well, I don't use mine at all to know "when a plant is ready" for your information.

I use it to scope for bugs such as root aphids which aren't readily visible to the naked eye.

If you have an extra buck, or access to a stage micrometer you can check the magnification power and resolution of your microscope. It's also useful for measuring all kinds of micro lengths. It isn't necessary if you just wanna look at trichomes, though.

my buddy wanted to see what sperm looked like under a scope so he masturbated and looked at it...freaked him the fuck out and now he refuses to masturbate

The trick with those is that living plant matter is a lot tougher to focus on than a dead leaf under the slide, say. With my higher mag microscopes I have to actually pull leaves off of the plant to check them because I can't get enough focus otherwise. Might not be the case for yours, but I've noticed it in the past with several of mine

you don't need all those extra x's this is from a Nikon Coolpix 4800 4MP camera in macro mode. I can tell the ripeness just fine.
